Shiv Sena snubs BJP over by-poll results

UDDHAVMumbai, Aug 26: The party warned its long-time ally that the elections cannot be won on 'wave' alone.

The Shiv Sena on Tuesday snubbed its alliance partner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the results of assembly by-polls which were announced on Monday, by warning that the elections cannot be won on 'wave' alone.

"People voted for Modi in Lok Sabha to improve the country's governance. Political equations for the state elections are different and we will have to study Bihar and Karnataka poll results to learn that," said an editorial in Sena mouthpiece Saamna.

The editorial added that the voters have shown that the voting pattern in Lok Sabha is different than that of assembly elections. "Everyone (Sena and the BJP) has to analyse this seriously," said the editorial.

Referring to the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra, the editorial noted that the Sena -BJP alliance will have to work tirelessly to bring in the change. "People do want change (in Maharashtra) but wave alone won't help you win the election," noted the editorial.

The editorial also said that the by-polls too have taught a lesson to everyone as it was after the Lok Sabha polls.

New Delhi, Feb 2: The Congress on Sunday released its manifesto for Delhi polls, promising to implement unemployment allowance of Rs 5,000-7,500 per month and cashback schemes for water and power consumers, if voted to power.

Presenting the manifesto, Delhi Congress chief Subhash Chopra said the party will provide free power up to 300 unit per month.

The manifesto also committed to spend 25 per cent budget each year on fighting pollution and improving transport facilities.

An unemployment allowance of Rs 5,000 for graduates and Rs 7,500 for post graduates per month will be provided under the Yuva Swabhiman Yojna, he said.

The Congress will launch flagship cashback schemes for power and water supply to benefit consumers saving these resources. The party, if voted to power, will open 100 Indira Canteens to provide subsidised meals at Rs 15, Chopra said.

The Congress will challenge the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the Supreme Court and demand the Centre to withdraw the law. The party will also not implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the existing form of the National Population Register (NPR), if voted to power in Delhi.

New Delhi, Jan 14: One of the four Nirbhaya gang rape convicts, who are scheduled to be hanged on January 22, moved a mercy plea before President Ram Nath Kovind to set aside the death sentence issued against him.

He also moved the Delhi High Court to set aside the death warrant issued by a trial court. This hearing is scheduled for Wednesday before a bench of Justices Manmohan and Sangita Dhingra Sehgal.

The petition, filed through advocate Vrinda Grover, seeks setting aside of the January 7 order issuing the warrant of his execution.

New Delhi, May 8: India's count of COVID-19 cases on Friday rose to 56,342 including 1,886 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Currently, there are 37,916 active cases while 16,539 COVID-19 positive patients have been cured/discharged and one has migrated.

Maharashtra has the highest number of cases with 18,120 followed by Gujarat with 7,013 cases and Delhi with 5,980 cases.
