Shivakumara Swami eligible for Bharat Ratna, Nobel prize: M B Patil

Bengaluru, Jan 23: Karnataka Home Minister M B Patil Wednesday said the 111-year-old Shivakumara Swami of Siddaganga mutt, who passed away on Monday, is eligible fora Nobel Prize apart from the Bharat Ratna.

He also said the state government wouldpress the demand for conferring the Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civivilan honour, on the seer posthumously.

"...Mother Theresa was awarded Nobel Prize for her service. Parama poojya Shivakumara swamiji, apart from Bharat Ratna, is also elegible for Nobel Prize, for his service," Patil told reporters here.

The government, along with other experts, has to thinkabout how to take the proposal forward, he said.

Pointing out that the state government in the past had recommend Shivakumar Swamiji's name to the Centre for the Bharat Ratna, he said, it would press for the nation's highest civilian award to the seer posthumously.

Lakhs of people bid a tearful adieu to the seer, known as "Walking God", as his mortal remains were laid to rest Tuesday with full state honours at the math he had headed for over the last seven decades.

"We join the people in this demand. Seriously we will take it up with the centrethere is no politics in this," he said, as he pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi too is aware of swamiji's service. "We hope to be successful," Patil said.

The swamiji had left an indelible imprint with hisstellar contributions in education sector and philanthropytargeted at children in whom he saw the almighty.

During the funeral procession, the crowdalso shouted slogans demanding "Bharat Ratna" for the seer.

Udupi, Jul 21: Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swami, the chief pontiff of Puthige Mutt, has tested positive for coronavirus. 

The pontiff got admitted into KMC Hospital Manipal last night and his treatment is in progress at the said hospital.

He was supposed to initiate his annual Chaturmasa Vruta at Padigaru Mutt on Tuesday.

According to sources, he was suffering from fever and hence he opted to get tested for covid-19. His health condition is said to be stable.

Mangaluru, Apr 1: Dakshina Kannada District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Tuesday announced that essential shops including grocery stores, fruits and vegetable shops will be allowed to open from Wednesday between 0700 hrs to 1200 hrs across the district.

Speaking at a press conference, he said that Milk, Medical, Gas distribution, Petrol Bunks, Banks will be opened as usual, he informed adding that Central Market and the Suratkal Market will remain closed.

With the Dakshin Kannada district administration relaxing the lockdown from 0600 hrs to 1500 hrs to purchase essential commodities, panic-stricken citizens rushed to the shops early in the morning itself.

Bengaluru, Apr 15: Karnataka government will explore Ayurveda for fighting the deadly COVID-19, Ayurveda practitioner Dr Giridhar Kaje said here on Wednesday.

After meeting the Chief Minister, Dr Kaje informed media that on a trial basis, ten Coronavirus patients will be administered Ayurvedic treatment in a designated hospital.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has consulted senior doctors on the issue, he said.
