Udupi, Apr 18: BJP leader and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, who is seeking re-election for the second time, has been booked by the police for her provocative and unethical tweet which allegedly hurt religious sentiments and violated the model code of conduct.
In a complaint registered with the Udupi Town police, K.V. Nagaraj of the Election Flying Squad for Udupi Assembly constituency, said he had filed a complaint on the written order of the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer.
Ahead of Ramanavami festival, Ms. Karandlaje had posted a picture of Rama aiming an arrow, with a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to 10-headed Ravana, which had pictures of various Opposition leaders.
This amounted to hurting religious sentiments and promoting enmity and was also a violation of the model code of conduct, according to the complaint. A case had been booked under Sections 295(A) of IPC and 123(3), 125 of the Representation of the People Act, the police said.
