Shocking: No passport for PM's wife, as she has no marriage certificate

November 8, 2015

Ahmedabad, Nov 8: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi's estranged wife Jashodaben Modi's application seeking passport has been returned by the regional Passport office in Gujarat saying its "incomplete."

modi wifeThe regional passport officer ZA Khan said that the application was incomplete and therefore it was not accepted.

"We have not accepted the application because there was no marriage certificate or a joint affidavit with the spouse," Mr. Khan said, adding, "marriage certificate or a joint affidavit is a required document to get the passport."

Mrs. Modi had sought passport to go abroad and meet their "family friends and relatives."

"We have many family friends abroad and they asked her to visit them so she had applied for the passport but the application has been turned down," her brother Ashok Modi said.

He added that she may have to explore "legal options" to get the passport, which is a right of every citizen of the country.

Earlier, she had applied under the Right to Information (RTI) seeking details of her security and order of the government of India to provide her security. Mehsana Superintendent of Police (SP) had refused to give the information saying the matter pertained to the security which is not disclosed under the RTI.

In his election affidavit filed in 2014 during the parliamentary polls, Mr. Narendra Modi had mentioned Jashodaben's name as his spouse.

After he became the Prime Minister following a landslide victory in the national polls, Jashodaben was given security cover with four police constables posted her residence.

She is a retired school teacher and lives with her brother Ashok Modi in a village in North Gujarat.

Bengaluru, May 27: Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Wednesday hit out at Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa-led Karnataka government for allegedly "betraying" the people by not fulfilling its Rs 1,610 crore COVID-19 package promise.

Taking a dig at Yediyurappa over the matter, the Congress leader tweeted, "Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa has betrayed people by not fulfilling his Rs 1,610 crore package promise. He seems to be following his @BJP4India leader @PMOIndia @narendramodi."

"Crisis and vulnerability should not be misused for political gains and BJP for India is insensitive towards the same," the former Karnataka Chief Minister said.

On May 6, Yediyurappa had urged migrant workers to stay back as construction activities have resumed and announced a Rs 1,610 crores COVID-19 financial package for the state.

"A package of Rs 1,610 crores will be released as COVID-19 financial relief. One time compensation of Rs 5,000 will be given to 2,30,000 barbers and 7,75,000 drivers," the Chief Minister said.

Referring to media reports, Siddarmiah cornered the state government for asking the licence to release funds for unorganised sector workers.

"How can we expect washermen and other unorganised sector workers to have licence for their work?" he asked.

It looks like Karnataka Chief Minister is very far from reality, he added.

Bengaluru,  Jul 9: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said that he was opposed to a tie-up with Janata Dal-Secular in the last Lok Sabha elections but the party high command did not listen to him.

"I had suggested that we should fight alone (in Lok Sabha elections) because JD-S votes would not have come to us and our votes would not have gone to JD-S," Siddaramaiah told reporters here.

Congress leader said that he was the only one to make the suggestion and he did not get support.

"I was the only one to raise a voice that's why it was not heard by (party) high command and I did not get support. We might have won over seven seats in parliament election if we had fought alone," he said.

After forming government in Karnataka in 2018 with support of JD-S, Congress had fought the 2019 general election in a pre-poll alliance with the party. Congress could only one seat of the 21 it contested and JD-S also won one seat of the seven it contested.
