Shocking: Woman police officer burnt alive by traffic cop

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 15: A woman civil police officer died after she was allegedly set ablaze on fire by a traffic police personnel in Kerala on Saturday, police said. The accused attacked the victim near her home at Mavelikkara in Alappuzha district. She died on the spot.

According to police, the accused allegedly poured petrol over the policewoman and set her ablaze this afternoon when she was on her way back home after work.

The victim was identified as Soumya Pushkaran,34, was posted at the Vallikkunnam station near Mavelikkara as CPO. The accused has been identified as Ajaz, who is also a civil police officer from Aluva traffic police. He hit the policewoman’s scooter by a car, following which she was knocked off from her two-wheeler.

According to local daily report, when the victim tried to run, the accused hacked her with a knife and poured petrol over her before setting her ablaze. In the attack, Soumya suffered severe injuries on her neck.

The accused also suffered burn injuries and was taken into custody, a police official told news agency.

He has been admitted to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. and is in the ICU.

The deceased was a mother of three children. The reason for the attack is yet to be ascertained, police said.

Bengaluru, Jun 3: The Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences at Hubballi has successfully treated a COVID-19 patient through plasma therapy, state medical education minister K Sudhakar said today.

"Karnataka achieves yet another milestone in battle against #COVID19. KIMS Hubli has successfully treated a Covid19 patient through Plasma Therapy & is the first institute in the state to accomplish this. Congrats to KIMS doctors & staff for this feat!" Mr Sudhakar tweeted.

In plasma therapy treatment, plasma cells from a COVID-19 patient, who has recovered from the disease, is transfused to a coronavirus patient who is in critical condition to treat him.

Plasma therapy was effectively used in the past during Ebola and the Spanish flu pandemic.

Mangaluru, May 15: Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police on Friday warned those who are opposing quarantine to either go for it or face legal action under Epidemic Diseases Act.

In a release here on Friday, Mr B M Laxmi Prasad said that schools and hostels have been identified for quarantining those who arrive from other states. Those, who return, will be quarantined in the respective Gram Panchayat/local bodies’ jurisdiction. The public should not panic over the quarantine facility.

The quarantine facility has been introduced in the interest of the general public. If anyone opposes or protests against such facility, then legal action will be initiated against them, he warned.

Mangaluru, Jan 10: A person has been booked for forwarding provocative message on WhatsApp against the Dakshina Kannada Khazi Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar.

According to police, the accused Hassan forwarded provocative messages against the Khazi in a WhatsApp group on December 31, following which he was booked under several sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Mangalore North Police are looking into the matter.
