Shooting duets with Sonakshi Sinha in 'Lingaa' were difficult, says Rajinikanth

December 9, 2014

Sinha LingaaHyderabad, Dec 9: He may have worked in about 170 films in a career spanning nearly four decades, but superstar Rajinikanth says he was tensed while shooting duets with Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha for his upcoming film Lingaa.

"I worked very hard for this film. Working hard does not mean the action scenes of a train fight or climax fight.

It is about doing duets with these two girls (Sonakshi and South Indian actress Anushka). I know Sonakshi since her childhood. She grew up at the same time like Aishwarya and Soundarya (his daughters) did.

"I was sweating when I had to do duets with her. I did not feel so tensed even while doing the first take in my first film. If God is to punish an artiste, it is by letting him do a duet after the age of 60," he said, evoking peels of laughter at a curtain-raiser event for Lingaa held here last evening.

The film, scheduled to hit the silver screens on December 12, would be released in Telugu as well.

Rajinikanth said he acted in Lingaa after a gap of about four-and-half years, as Kochadaiyan (released earlier this year), an animation film, belonged to a different genre. The storyline of Lingaa deals with the construction of a mega dam and is set in the pre-independence era.

"It is my luck that I have done such a film in my career," he said. Noting that the film wrapped up in just six months though it dealt with a big storyline, busy stars and technicians like A R Rahman, Sonakshi Sinha, Anushka and involved thousands of artistes, he praised the film's director KS Ravikumar, producer Rockline Venkatesh and the technicians for completing the movie in a short time.

Hollywood films are generally shot in a short period of a few months, though the film-makers work on it for months and years before beginning the shoot. Rajinikanth favoured such a practice being followed in India too.

The actor, however, said Telugu film Bahubali currently being made by ace Telugu director SS Rajamouli, is an exception as its requirements were different.

Appreciating Rajamouli, who made sensational hits in Telugu like Eega (Makkhi in Hindi), Magadheera, Maryada Ramanna and Vikramarkudu, he said the Telugu director is going to be "number one in India".

Rajinikanth said he would like to act in a film directed by Rajamouli.

On the occasion, the superstar condoled the deaths and devastation caused by cyclone Hudhud in Visakhapatnam and coastal Andhra Pradesh in October this year.

Regretting that he could not attend a fund-raiser event organised by the Telugu film industry for cyclone relief, Rajinikanth sought apology for it and said he would make a contribution for the same.

On the occasion, Sonakshi said it was an honour for her to share screen space with Rajinikanth in the film and that she learnt a lot from him.

Veteran Telugu director KViswananth (who made films like Eshwar in Hindi), South Indian actress Anushka who also stars in Lingaa, famous Telugu director Trivikram Srinivas, leading producer Allu Aravind and several other prominent film personalities attended the event.

New Delhi, Jun 2: After Amitabh Bachchan, it is actor Akshay Kumar, who has come forward to support Bhumi Pednekar's initiative -- Climate Warrior -- urging the people to plant trees.

Bhumi Pednekar has sought to bring Bollywood together to spread awareness about mother nature through her campaign in view of the coming World Environment Day (June 5).

The campaign endeavours to get leaders from the entertainment industry to tell what is the 'one wish they have for the earth.'

Following the thread, the 'Kesari' actor was seen raising his voice on issues, and have taken steps to bring awareness to important causes like climate change.

"Our Beautiful Planet that has sustained us now needs us to protect it more than ever. During this time we as a community must tread carefully and act immediately" Akshay Kumar was seen saying in a video posted by Pednekar on Instagram.

"A lot of damage has been done and climate change is a grave reality that all of us are facing," he added.

Explaining his one wish to rebuild mother nature, is, as he says: "The simplest act of planting trees."

"I consider this as one of the most basic and efficient deeds that we can exercise individually and also urge others to do so. Let us do our bit to heal and rebuild the only planet we have. So join me and become a Climate Warrior," the 'Padman' actor concluded.

Ahead of the World Environment Day, and in support of Bhumi's initiative, legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan earlier in the day also pledged to be 'climate-conscious' in a bid to protect nature.

Her diagnosis comes two days after fellow "Game of Thrones" actor Kristofer Hivju also said that he tested positive for the COVID-19 infection.

Varma, who played the role of Ellaria Sand in the epic HBO series, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share the news.

"I'm in bed with it and it's not nice. Stay safe and healthy and be kind to your fellow people," she wrote.

The 46-year-old actor was starring in the modern take of Anton Chekhov's play "The Seagull" in London's West End, alongside "Game of Thrones" alum Emilia Clarke.

The play is on hold due to the pandemic.

"So sad our and so many other shows around the world have gone dark affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. We hope to be back soon and urge you all (and the govt) to support us when we do. Phoenix/ Seagull rising from the ashes (sic)," Varma wrote in her post with photos from the rehearsals.

Varma and Hivju join Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Idris Elba, Olga Kurylenko, and Rachel Matthews among the Hollywood celebrities who contracted the virus.

Mar 11: The shooting of Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai has been completed, and the film will now release on schedule.

If one recalls, the film went on the floors in the first week of November 2019 and was supposed to be Salman’s fastest completed film. However, the movie faced a variety of roadblocks — It was first to be wrapped in the first week of February, “But Salman went off to his Panvel farmhouse after the release of Dabangg 3 and spent a while there ushering in his birthday,” a source reveals.

“Then, the extension of the show Bigg Boss 13 by five weeks also turned out to be another speed breaker. Then, Salman wanted to make sure that the film was being made as good as what his audiences wanted on Eid. He made sure that his director Prabhudeva got what he wanted from the performers and didn’t want to rush him.

"Additionally, the Azerbaijan schedule of the film also got cancelled as Salman did not want to take any chances with the cast and crew with the lurking Covid 19, and rescheduled the shoot in India. This is now complete, barring any patchwork that might emerge later,” our source adds.

Radhe is slated to be an Eid release, which will clash with Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb.
