The show is down market, people are tacky: Ex-host Arshad blasts Salman’s Bigg Boss

Mumbai, Oct 17: Salman Khan has been so synonymous with the reality show ‘Bigg Boss’ for the last few years that it is hard to imagine anyone else but him as the host.

However, before Salman took the reins, actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Arshad Warsi and Shilpa Shetty had also given it a shot.

Arshad, perhaps deserves a little credit for the show going on from scratch to running for 11 seasons as he was the first celebrity to host the adaptation of ‘Big Brother.’

Arshad was recently conspicuous by his absence when the team of his Diwali release ‘Golmaal Again’ visited the sets of the show for promotions.

While one of his jokes during a promotional event on Salman was reported as a possible reason for his absence, it seems his problems with the show were most likely the cause, about which he opened up in a recent interview.

“The (Bigg Boss) show is down market," Arshad said.

He also said, "People on the show, I hear, are tacky.”

He elaborated, "I haven't seen this season, but I've heard about it. The channel is attempting to boost the ratings by showcasing the things that sell. And thus, morality is taking a backseat."

The recent example of Haseena Parkar’s alleged son-in-law Zubair Khan over his rude behaviour or subsequent eviction was just one of the numerous examples of negativity associated with the show.

Arshad said, "People enjoy watching crass, and the channel is merely serving it. The content showcased on Indian television is regressive. The day people change, their taste (in content), the narrative of the shows will also change. If the world wants to see sensible people in the house, the channel will oblige. The audience wants to see dramatic people, those who fight, hit and abuse."

Explaining the difference in the show at the time he was hosting to what it is now, Arshad stated, “The concept back then was to understand the psyche of people and notice the developments that occur when they are made to reside in a house, isolated from the world. No one wanted to cause any trouble. There was no nudity or violence demanded in the clause.

"When you meet new individuals, you can be cordial for a week. Then, you discover their traits. When good behaviour wears out, the dynamics change. It takes time for people to reach that stage. But, now the channel wants immediate TRP success, so they are consciously sending nutcases into the house."

While Arshad’s joke at Salman reportedly didn’t do well with him, it would be interesting to know what he thinks of a more direct yet indirect comment at him this time.

New Delhi, Apr 23: As the holy month of Ramzan is about to begin, several Muslim public figures on Thursday appealed to the community to offer tarawih and hold iftar inside their homes and follow the lockdown regulations imposed to tackle the coronavirus threat.

Television actor Iqbal Khan in a video message appealed to the people to not step out of their houses during Ramzan.

"This time around, whatever you do during Ramzan, you have to do it inside your houses. Do not visit mosques; offer tarawih (late evening prayers offered during Ramzan) at your homes. Your stepping outside will not only put you in a problem but may put your family members in trouble also," said Khan.

"And that will be wrong, do not go outside. If anyone says you have to go outside then they are wrong. Stay home and stay safe and help others stay safe too," he added.

Another TV actor and Tik Tok star Jannat Zubair asked people to avoid any kind of social gatherings so as to ensure the safety of everyone.

"I know we are in a difficult situation but there is no need to panic. We will overcome this and things will be fine. The holy month of Ramzan is going to start, please stay home, offer prayers at your homes and avoid family/friends gatherings for now. It is just a matter of time, things will be fine soon. Stay home and stay safe," she said.
Ramzan is likely to begin from April 24.

Mumbai, May 12: Superstar Salman Khan on Tuesday released his latest romantic single "Tere Bina" featuring Jacqueline Fernandez while in quarantine at his Panvel farm house.

The actor, along with close family and friends from the industry, including Iulia Vantur, Waluscha De Sousa, is living in the farm house. This is the second song Salman has released amid the coronavirus pandemic, after "Pyaar Karona."

"About seven weeks ago, when we came to the farm, we didn't know we will be here under a lockdown. So we wanted to do things to keep ourselves busy. That's when we decided to do these songs. We launched 'Pyaar Karona' and now, we are launching 'Tere Bina'," Salman said in a statement.

The song, sung and directed by Salman, is composed by his friend Ajay Bhatia and written by Shab bir Ahmed.

The actor said he had the song "Tere Bina" with him for quite a while but because it wasn't fitting into any of his film, he decided to release it now.

Jacqueline said she didn't think they would be able to shoot the song, which they finished in four days of evening shoots, with such limitations.

"We are used to shooting songs on a large stage with grand production costs. There are costumes, hair, make up. All of a sudden, we find ourselves with a team of three people. For the first time, I was checking lighting and moving props around. It was a great experience and it taught us how to make the most of what we have," she said.

Salman recently sent out food packets and ration from his farm house to those affected by the lockdown.
