Siddaramaiah files nomination from Chamundeshwari; HDK from Ramanagara, Channapatna

Mysuru, Apr 20: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who is contesting the upcoming polls from Chamundeshwari constituency, filed his nomination on Friday after offering prayers at Chamundeshwari temple.

Karnataka Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy filed nomination from BTM Layout constituency. Congress candidate Priyank Kharge, son of party leader Mallikarjun Kharge, filed his nomination papers from Chittapur constituency.

On a related note, Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy filed nomination from Ramanagara and Channapatna.

Karnataka will go to polls on May 12 to elect its representatives for the 224-member assembly. The results will be declared on May 15.

Will CM contest from Badami too?

Earlier this month a delegation of Congress leaders from North Karnataka had met Siddaramaiah and urged him to contest from Badami constituency as well. While Congress went on to name Devraj Patil as its nominee from Badami, the issuing of B-form (required to be filed by a political party mentioning name of its approved candidate) to Patil was been put on hold.

Political analysts strongly believe though that regardless of whether he contests from two seats or not, much of what Siddaramaiah says and does will determine Congress' fortunes in the state. In what is a battle of prestige between the Congress - a party fast losing its grip on states across India, and BJP - a party looking to build momentum ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2019, allegations have flown thick and fast.

Mangaluru, Jan 7: A ten-year-old boy who suffered severe injuries after drowning in Kadri temple pond died on Monday,

Police said that the deceased has been identified as Sandesh, resident of Athani taluk.

Sandesh drowned while taking a dip in a pond at Kadri Shree Manjunatha Temple on Sunday evening. He was immediately rushed to the hospital in the city, however, he died on Monday morning after he stopped responding to the treatment.

Bantwal, Karnataka, May 29: Vitla Police have registered a case against four persons, including a Bajrang Dal leader, on charges of assaulting a boy and forcing him to chant 'Jai Shree Ram', video of which had gone viral on social media.

Police said on Friday that the accused have been identified as Bajrang Dal leader Dinesh, a resident of Kanyana, and two 16-year-old youngsters from Kolnadu village and a 17-year-old boy from Kanyana village. The victim of the assault has been identified as the first PUC student of Kudtumugaru.

On April 21, at around 11 am, four accused waylaid the boy's bike and started abusing him. They then dragged the boy to Kadumath High School grounds and assaulted and posed life threat. Besides, they forced him to chant ''Jai Shree Ram,'' he stated in the complaint.

Bengaluru, May 8: Karnataka Minister for Primary and Secondary Education S Suresh Kumar on Friday said that the next academic year will have to be shortened as it will delayed due to the COVID-19.

Mr Kumar in a meeting with Education Department officials said that the syllabus and curriculum for the academic year will have to be designed according to time available. Additional content in the syllabus will have to be removed, according to a statement issued here by the education department here on Friday.

The Minister also stated that plans are underway to conduct CET examination meant for admission into professional courses immediately after the SSLC examination.

He also advised the officials to make the Department’s YouTube channel feature more subject-wise and chapter-wise content for the aid of the students.

Additionally, a booklet will be launched to teach students on how to adjust to life in the post-COVID-19 world.
