Siddaramaiah may be responsible for arrest of DKS, claims Nalin Kateel

Bagalkot, Sept 9: Bharatiya Janata Party State president Nalin Kumar Kateel has claimed that former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had conspired to get former Minister D K Shivakumar arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the alleged money-laundering case.

Addressing presspersons in Bagalkot on Sunday, he accused the former Chief Minister of playing politics of hatred. He refuted allegations of the BJP indulging in vendetta politics.

“Mr. Shivakumar has not been arrested by the Lokayukta officials or State government. The Congress government was in power in the State in 2017 when the Income Tax officials conducted a raid on his residence. Mr. Siddaramaiah could have stopped it as he was the Chief Minister,” Mr. Kateel claimed.

He also asserted that his party would have detained Mr. Shivakumar or conducted raids on his residence before the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections if it wanted to play vendetta politics against him.

Mr. Kateel said the Congress leaders were shifting the blame onto the BJP to save their face. Maintaining that Mr. Shivakumar was arrested in a money-laundering case, he said that the Income Tax and Enforcement Directorate officials have lodged a complaint and detained him only after thoroughly studying relevant records.

Bengaluru, Apr 6: Karnataka State Board for Auqaf on Monday suspended mass prayers and visit to the Qabrasthans (graveyards) and dargahs on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat on April 9 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"It is hereby directed to all not to hold congregational prayer in the Masjid and the management of the Qabrasthans/Dargahs throughout the State should suspend the visit of public on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat on Thursday, April 9," according to a statement here on Monday.

It said, no public shall be allowed to perform religious rituals in the Qabrasthans/Dargahs and all the gates shall be kept closed.

Udupi, Jan 8: Senior journalist Raviraj Valalambe passed away due to suspected cardiac arrest on Tuesday night at his residence in Kinnimulki, here. He was 50.

Raviraj was rushed to a hospital after he complained of chest pain. He breathed his last on way to medical facility.

He was the director of Prime TV, a local Kannada news channel.

He had worked as a reporter for ETV and Suvarna News channel earlier.

He is survived by wife and two daughters.

Mangaluru, Jan 24: Urwa Police have arrested a 27-year-old youth on charges of chain snatching and recovered around 300 grams of stolen gold chains worth Rs 12 lakhs from him, the police said on Friday.
