Siddaramaiah tears into minister for claiming state has no funds for flood victims

Bengaluru, Oct 26: Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Saturday slammed Karnataka cabinet minister C C Patil for claiming that the state does not have enough funds to help the flood victims.

Speaking to ANI, the former chief minister of Karnataka said, "It shows their (Karnataka government) negligence. Every month the state government gets tax. The state gets its share of taxes. They get several kinds of taxes. If he is saying that the treasury is empty it reflects his knowledge about the financial issues."

"They do not have any will to help people amidst hardships. This government has completely failed to provide relief to the victims," he added.

Notably, after being criticised by residents for not visiting flood-affected areas in Gadag district, Cabinet Minister CC Patil on Wednesday visited Sevala Nagar village and talked to people about the problems they face.

Patil, also the minister in-charge of Gadag district, told the locals that the state government is spending a huge amount in the flood-affected areas despite lack of funds.

"You are aware of how much money the government is spending in flood-affected areas. You even know that the government doesn't have money. We are also not getting our MLA funds. We will see later if you want to leave this village and want to shift to a different village. I will make the arrangements," Patil said.

The death toll has gone up to 13 following the devastation caused by incessant rain and floods in Karnataka between October 18 to 24.

JNU is full of traitors, says Kalladka Bhat

Tumakuru, Jan 8: RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat stoked controversy on Wednesday by stating that 'Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is full of traitors'.

He was addressing the media after taking part in a pro-CAA rally organised by National Citizens Forum near the office of the deputy commissioner of the district here.

Bhat said, “JNU is full of traitors. Congress and communist parties have been generating anti-nationals there. But there is no need to close the university down. Modi government will handle it.”

“Nationalism should be infused among the students there through love and trust. They should be made to realize what the truth is,” he said.

20 member armed gang loots Rs 12 lakh booty in Koppa

Chikkamagaluru, Mar 8: A 20 member armed gang barged into a farmhouse at Gudde Thota near Jayapura in Koppa taluk and looted valuables and cash worth about Rs 12 lakh after assaulting the inmates, Police said on Sunday.

According to police, the culprits covered their face with masks and after assaulting watchman they broke open the main door and tied up Vijayaraghav and his wife Asha before robbing the valuables.

The culprits took away Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and valuables worth over Rs 10 lakh.

Haj Bhavan is now 400-bed Covid Care Center; 50 patients already under treatment

Bengaluru, Jun 25: In the wake of unexpected surge in the coronavirus positive cases in Bengaluru, the special task force team assigned with the task of creating Covid Care Centres (CCC) has made elaborate arrangements the Haj Bhavan.

Civic authorities have already shifted around 50 Covid-19 patients to Haj Bhavan.

BBMP Commissioner B H Anil Kumar said on Thursday that due to an increase in the number of cases and due to shortage of beds in hospitals, the Haj Bhavan has been converted into CCC.

Headed by Rajendar Kumar Kataria, Secretary, Horticulture and Sericulture department, the CCC task force has arranged 400 beds at Haj Bhavan.

“The facility at Haj Bhavan has already been made operational. Doctors, nurses, paramedical and house-keeping staff from BBMP have been deployed as per SOPs. All essential equipment, medicines and other facilities have been made available in adequate numbers at the Haj Bhavan,” Kataria explained.

In the second phase, the task force team has identified hostel rooms of seven engineering colleges, which would fetch about 3,200 beds to house asymptomatic Covid-19 patients.

If need arises, the task team in the third and final phase, will consider the facilities such as Palace Grounds, Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre, Indoor Stadiums at Kanteerava and Koramangala to be converted as CCC.
