Sidelined by BSY, Eshwarappa resumes Rayanna brigade activities

November 21, 2016

Bengaluru, Nov 21: Senior BJP leader K S Eshwarappa on Sunday revived the Sangolli Rayanna brigade, an apolitical forum for organising backward classes and Dalits, despite stiff opposition from BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa.

eshwarappaEshwarappa held a meeting with the office-bearers of the Rayanna brigade from Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts at the Legislators' Home and decided to organise an oath-taking ceremony for the brigade members at Nandgadh in Belagavi on December 6. Seers of various mutts and the brigade members from all the Assembly constituencies in the state are scheduled to take part in the event.

Yeddyurappa had complained to the BJP central leaders against Eshwarappa for organising Rayanna brigade and projecting himself as a leader of backward classes. The brigade had suspended all its activities after the intervention of BJP central leaders recently. Eshwarappa had even dropped his plan to organise a rally of the brigade in Tumakuru. But, now Eshwarappa is learnt to be upset with Yeddyurappa for neglecting him in the party. Yeddyurappa, it is said, has not involved Eshwarappa in organising the BJP's backward classes' mega convention in Bengaluru on November 27.

Speaking at the brigade's office-bearers' meeting, Eshwarappa openly said he was upset with party leaders taking unilateral decisions. Rayanna brigade will continue holding conventions across the state. The brigade is striving for the welfare of backward classes and Dalits. It has got tremendous response from people in North Karnataka, he added.

Meanwhile, Yeddyurappa held a meeting with the party leaders from Bengaluru to discuss preparations for organising the backward classes' convention on November 27.

Ballari, Apr 18: Hosapete town in Ballari district of Karnataka gasped in disbelief as it turned out that 11 members of one single family are positive for the coronavirus.

The whole town has been declared a containment zone and is being surveilled 24X7.

The family includes seven members whose tests returned positive today, three who tested Covid-19 positive on March 30 and one other member subsequently.

The seven who tested positive today had been negative when they were earlier tested along with the others.

They have all now been shifted to isolation wards at the District Hospital in Ballari.

Including this family of 11, Ballari has 13 positive cases so far, with one case each reported from Ballari and Siraguppa towns.

Startled by this sudden upsurge from Hosapete, the district administration has set up 16 fever clinics to screen people and six COVID care centres to treat positive cases. There are two dedicated COVID hospitals, one at Ballari and another at Torangallu in Sandur.

A team of psychological counsellors have been put on duty to provide support to the patients at the isolation centres.

Kalaburgi, May 27: Karnataka's Kalaburgi district recorded a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, as per information provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In light of the increasing mercury levels, people here were seen consuming sugarcane juice and cold drinks to beat the heat. Animals and birds could also be seen searching for water for relief from the scorching sun.

Locals of the area requested the district administration to take necessary actions such as spraying water on roads, in order to bring down the temperatures.

"We are facing huge heat waves in this district from the past two days, and even the temperature is around 44 to 45 degrees on a daily basis. So, it is a very alarming situation in Kalaburgi. When we move around the city, we are unable to find water and fresh fruit juice, and even if fresh juice is available, we are afraid of getting infected by COVID-19," said one local.

"If we carry cold water, it gets warm within half an hour, and gets unfit for drinking, and it is tough for us. I request the district administration to look into this matter and do the needful such as spraying water on the roads, etc. for slightest relief," he added.
