Singer, Radio jockey Rajesh hacked to death in Kerala, friend injured

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 27: A popular radio jockey was hacked to death on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday while he was sitting with his friend at his studio in Thiruvananthapuram.

Rajesh alias Rasikan Rajesh, 36, was also a mimicry artist as well as a folk singer. According to the rural district police, the crime took place around 2am at the sound recording studio - Metro Studio - owned by Rajesh at Madavoor under Pallickalpolice station limits.

Rajesh and his friend Kuttan had just returned from a stage programme and were loading their equipment back into the studio, when unidentified assailants who came in a red Maruti Swift car attacked them with sharp weapons. Both of them were rushed to the hospital by the police, who were alerted by the local residents, who heard the commotion.

Rajesh succumbed to his injuries at a hospital at Parippally while Kuttan is undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

Rajesh has worked with Red FM as an RJ for several years before joining Voice of Kerala FM station in Doha. He recently returned from abroad and joined a mimicry troupe. He leaves behind a wife and a son.

Mathura, Jul 22: A local court in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura on Wednesday sentenced 11 policemen, including the then Deputy Superintendent of Police, to life imprisonment in a case pertaining to the murder of royal Raja Man Singh in 1985.

District Judge Sadhana Rani Thakur announced the life imprisonment sentence a day after holding them guilty of the killing. Three policemen were, however, acquitted. Four men died during the trial.

The policemen were convicted under Section 302 (murder), 148 (rioting) and 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code.

The verdict comes 35 years after Man Singh was killed. He, along with two others, was shot dead in police firing a day after he crashed his jeep into the then Rajasthan Chief Minister Shiv Charan Mathur's helicopter in a fit of anger.

Mar 7: Two Malayalam news channels, Asianet News and Media One, which were banned by the information and broadcasting ministry for their coverage of the recent violence in Delhi on Friday evening, were allowed to resume telecasting on Saturday morning.

While Asianet News appeared to have begun operations around 7am on Saturday, Media One was screening content by 9.30am.

The ministry of information and broadcasting had imposed a 48-hour ban on Asianet News and Media One for their coverage of the Delhi violence for 48 hours from 7.30pm on Friday. Both Asianet News and Media One were barred under Rule 6(1 c) and Rule 6(1e) of the Cable Television Networks Act, 1994.

The ministry of information and broadcasting alleged Asianet News and Media One were "biased" and critical of the RSS and Delhi Police.

The ban on Asianet News and Media One triggered a torrent of criticism of the move. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor asked how "Malayalam channels inflame communal passions in Delhi?" and alleged some English news channels were continuing "their brazen distortions" with impunity.

In a statement issued on Friday after the ban, Media One termed the move "unfortunate and condemnable" and called it a "blatant attack against free and fair reporting". Media One called it "an order to stop free and fair journalism".

New Delhi, Mar 11: According to the Union health ministry, there are 62 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country.

The Delhi High Court Wednesday sought the stand of the Centre and the Delhi government on a PIL seeking proper and adequate measures to combat coronavirus.

A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar issued notice to the Ministry of Health and the Delhi government seeking their replies on the public interest litigation (PIL) filed by an advocate.

The petition, by lawyer Triveni Potekar, seeks directions to the Centre and the Delhi government to make available important and relevant information on access to and availability of medical facilities for testing and treatment for the coronavirus disease.
