Siraj Ahmed chosen for International Aryabhata Award

Mangalore, April 25: City's prominent developer and builder Siraj Ahmed has been chosen for the prestigious '2012 International Aryabhata Award'.

The Bangalore-based Aryabhata Cultural Organisation has selected Mr Ahmed for the award for his contributions towards the development of the city, said Organisation president H L N Rao.

He will receive the award at a colourful ceremony to be organised at Ravindra Kalakshetra in Bangalore on April 28.

Mr Ahmed is the managing director of Inland Infrastructure Developers Pvt Ltd.

Udupi, Jun 1: As many as 73 people have been tested positive for coronavirus in Udupi district today.

The district has registered a total of 260 positive cases so far. Majority of the positive cases in Udupi district have inter-state travel history to Maharashtra.

Kasaragod, Feb 5: The customs officials has confiscated 15.5 kilograms gold from a car at Bekal near here on Wednesday.

Sources said, acting on a tip-off, the customs sleuths intercepted a car at Bekal, and seized the yellow metal which is being smuggled by the occupants into Kerala.

The police also managed to arrest the two youth identified as Khetan (29) and Akash (23), both natives of Maharashtra. They had hidden the gold in the cushion. 

The accused confessed that the gold was being transported from Thalassery to Maharashtra illegally. The custom officials are investigating to find others involved in the case.

Mangaluru, Apr 22: City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha, on Wednesday, interacted with families of Covid-19 warriors of the Police Department through a special video conference to infuse confidence in them.

He spoke to the family members of the police personnel who, along with ASHA workers, are monitoring the home quarantined people and even assist them in supplying essentials and medicines.

Most of the family member of the police personnel were of North Karnataka origin and the Commissioner asked them to stay safe by staying at home and explained to them the good work done by their family members in the Police Department.
