Lucknow, Mar 28: A sitting BJP MP in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday resigned from the party and joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) after he was denied renomination for the upcoming polls.

In an apparent display of resentment, Anshul Verma — the lawmaker from Hardoi Lok Sabha seat — handed over his resignation letter to the ‘chowkidar’ at the BJP headquarters here, to register his protest against the ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He also gave Rs 100 to the watchman, asking him to hand over the resignation letter to those concerned at the party office.

“I was denied a ticket because I hail from the Dalit community. “The BJP has denied renomination to six Dalit sitting MPs. It seems Dalits are worth nothing in the party,” Verma said.

The BJP has fielded Jai Prakash Rawat from Hardoi, replacing Verma. Hardoi is a reserved constituency.

Verma had earlier also opposed the ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign and had refused to add ‘chowkidar’ before his name on his Twitter handle.

Over two dozen sitting BJP MPs have been denied renomination by the saffron party in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, triggering widespread resentment within the party. Sources said that several sitting MPs could turn rebels and either contest as independents or join rival parties.

Chaudhary Babulal, who was denied ticket from Fatehpur Sikri seat, has convened a meeting of his supporters to decide about his future course of action.

Mriganka Singh, the daughter of senior BJP leader Hukum Singh, who was also denied ticket from Kairana seat, reacted sharply and alleged a conspiracy against her by some of her own party leaders.

New Delhi, Apr 19: The government on Sunday prohibited the sale of non-essential items through e-commerce platforms during the ongoing lockdown, four days after allowing such companies to sale mobile phones, refrigerators and ready-made garments.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla issued an order excluding the non-essential items from sale by the e-commerce companies from the consolidated revised guidelines, which listed the exemption given to the services and people from the purview of the lockdown.

The order said the following clause "E-commerce companies. Vehicles used by e-commerce operators will be allowed to ply with necessary permissions" is excluded from the guidelines.

The previous order had said such items were allowed for sale through e-commerce platforms from April 20.

However, the reason for reversing the order is not known immediately.

Ayodhya, Aug 5: After laying the foundation stone for the Ram temple in Ayodhya on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the 'bhoomi pujan' event as an "emotional moment" for the entire country and added that "every heart is illuminated today".

"Every heart is illuminated; it is an emotional moment for the entire country... A long wait ends today... A grand temple will now be built for our Ram Lalla who had been living under a tent for many years," said Prime Minister Modi at foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Ram temple.

"With the construction of this temple, not only history is being made, but is being repeated.

The way boatmen to tribals helped Lord Ram, the way children helped Lord Krishna lift Govardhan mountain, similarly, with everyone's efforts temple construction will be completed," he added.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Modi conducted 'bhoomi pujan' for the construction work of Ram temple.

New Delhi, May 22: Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das on Friday extended the moratorium on payment of loans by another three months till August to provide much-needed relief to borrowers whose income has been hit due to the coronavirus crisis.

In March, the central bank had allowed a three-month moratorium on payment of all term loans due between March 1, 2020, and May 31, 2020.

Accordingly, the repayment schedule and all subsequent due dates, as also the tenor for such loans, were shifted across the board by three months.

As a result of this moratorium, individuals’ EMI repayments of loans taken were not deducted from their bank accounts, providing much-needed liquidity.

The EMI payments will restart only once the moratorium time period expires on August 31.
