Snap action: defecate in open, find photo posted online

Mathura, Apr 9: To deter the practice of open defecation, authorities here have resorted to naming and shaming offenders by posting their pictures on social media.

defegate District authorities today inspected several villages here under the Swachh Bharat initiative and took action against offenders.

They even posted their pictures on WhatsApp to deter such habits. "A total of 18 villages were inspected and 36 officials have been assigned to this task," Chief Development Officer Manish Kumar Verma said.

"Several persons were caught defecating in the open. Villagers were also made aware of the ills of this practice," he said.

The CDO said efforts are being made to make the villages free of open defecation by April 15, adding that they were looking to accomplish the same target with 150 villages of the district by August 15.

People with mild, medium colour blindness can obtain driving licence now

New Delhi, Jun 26: The Road Transport and Highways Ministry has issued a notification to enable citizens with mild to medium colour blindness to obtain a driving licence.

An official release said that the Ministry has been taking measures to enable divyangjan citizens to avail transport-related services, especially driving licence.

It said the ministry received representations that the colour blind citizens are not able to get a driving licence due to requirements in the declaration about physical fitness (Form I) or the medical certificate (Form IA).

The release said that the issue was taken up with expert medical institution and advice sought.

The recommendations received were that mild to medium colour blind citizens be allowed to drive and restrictions should only be on the severe colour blind citizens.

"This is also allowed in other parts of the world," the release said.

The notification seeks to amend Form 1 and Form 1A pertaining to Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989.

India's COVID-19 tally rises to 5,734 cases

New Delhi, Apr 9: With an increase of 540 positive COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours, India's tally of coronavirus cases has risen to 5,734, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.

Out of the 5,734 cases; 5,095 are active COVID-19 cases and 472 cases have been recovered/discharged and one case migrated.
The death toll has also risen to 166 after 17 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra is the worst-hit state 1,135 positive cases so far and while Tamil Nadu is second with 738 positive cases. Delhi's tally has risen to 669 cases.
