Mangaluru, Aug 20: A former leader of Bharatiya Janata Party has revealed that some Sangh Parivar activists in coastal Karnataka were hand-in-glove in the illegal cattle trade.

krambhatIn his response to the murder of a BJP worker by a group of cow vigilantes in Udupi, K Rama Bhat Urimajalu, former two-time MLA from Puttur, sarcastically said that one should practice in life what the preach to others.

Mr Bhat, who had won on the Janata Party ticket in 1978 and on the Bharatiya Janata Party ticket in 1983, had played a major role in building the saffron party in the coastal district. He was the first in the Sangh Parivar to become an MLA in Karnataka, even before the national party BJP was formed.

The octogenarian leader, who distanced from BJP and floated the Swabhimani Vedike nearly a decade ago in protest against the “dirty politics” of the saffron party, also said that some Hindu youths were misguided by their leaders.

He also said that Sangh Parivar should show the courage to own up its wrong-doing. “You cannot stop illegal cattle trafficking by taking law into hands or attacking and killing people. If there are any instances of illegal transportation of cattle, you can inform the police,” he said.

A group of cow vigilantes owing allegiance to Hindutva groups on Wednesday had lynched Praveen Poojary, 29, a BJP worker, to death for indulging in illegal cattle transpiration in Udupi district on August 17. Police have arrested around 25 people in connection with the incident.

Bengaluru, Jan 5: BJP leader and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa once again blamed the Congress of creating 'confusion' among the Muslim community over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act-2019 while launching a door to door campaign to dispel such rumors.

Yediyurappa was on a door-to-door campaign to make people aware of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and to allay their fears.

"Unnecessarily, the members of Congress are creating confusion among the Muslim community. I assure you that not a single Muslim will be affected because of CAA," said B. S. Yediyurappa.

"Almost all previous Prime Ministers have supported it, now Congress is creating a problem so as to create confusion among Muslims. That's why we are out on the door-to-door campaign," he said.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, seeks to grant Indian citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

Bengaluru, Feb 8: The BJP on Saturday drew flak on Twitter for taking a swipe at Muslim women who appear to be standing in a line to vote in Delhi's assembly polls. ""Kaagaz Nahi Dikayenge Hum" ! ! ! Keep the documents safe, you will need to show them again during NPR exercise (sic)," the party's Karnataka Twitter handle posted using the hashtag #DelhiPolls2020.

The video, which appears to have been taken from one of the polling booths in Delhi on Saturday, shows burqa-clad women flashing their voter ID cards. While the threatening tone of the tweet is unmissable, the tweet contradicts the government's statement that no person needs to submit any documents during the house-to-house survey for updating the National Population Register (NPR) and that information provided by individuals would be accepted and recorded.

The tweet has added to the prevailing confusion regarding the NPR exercise in the country.

The NPR is a list of "usual residents" of the country. In 2010, the data for NPR was collected along with the house-listing phase of the Census of India 2011. The data was updated in 2015 by conducting a door-to-door survey.

Currently, it has been decided to update the NPR along with the house-listing phase of Census 2021 during April to September 2020 in all the states/union territories except Assam.

Most of the opposition parties see NPR as a prelude to the contentious National Register of Citizens (NRC), which has been opposed by even NDA allies like the JD(U). The NPR questionnaire asked details like the birthplace of parents. In combination with the recently amended citizenship law, protesters fear that the registry might be eventually used for NRC.

As a result, people, predominantly Muslims, have hit the streets as India witnesses one of the most widespread civilian unrest of recent times.

New Delhi, Feb 13: Two SpiceJet pilots have been suspended today for an improper landing at Mangalore Airport which damaged three runway edge lights. The incident took place on October 31 last year when the private carrier's Boeing 737 aircraft was returning from Dubai.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) suspended the licenses of the pilots for four-and-half months from the date of the incident.

DGCA had issued a show cause notice to the Pilot in Command and the First Officer demanding explanation of the "lapses" and found their replies unsatisfactory, the aviation watchdog said in a statement.

Investigation revealed that the touchdown was improper as it deviated to the the left on the runway in turn damaging three runway edge lights.
