Sons of Siddaramaiah, other ministers part of sand mafia: HDK

March 29, 2016

Mysuru, Mar 29: Former chief minister and JD(S) party State unit president H D Kumaraswamy, on Monday, condemned the attack on police personnel by the members of sand mafia, near Kupparavalli in Nanjangud taluk on Sunday, and alleged that the State government was backing the culprits.

hdkAddressing reporters, during his visit to the city, Kumaraswamy asked, “Why the police have not filed a FIR against the culprits, even after 24 hours of the attack? The State government is safeguarding the sand mafia, instead of the officials. The officials are losing self-confidence due to the negligence of the government,” he said.

He alleged, “Sons of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other ministers from the district are involved in the sand mafia. Illegal sand is being transported to Kerala. With increased attacks on officials, who try to check illegal sand transportation, the State is under the threat of turning into a Jungle State' like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh,” he said.

No support to ACB'

Speaking about the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Kumaraswamy said, he never supported creation of the bureau in the State. “If JD(S) comes to power, the bureau will be banned within 24 hours. I am confident that the JD(S) will come to power in the next Assembly elections,” he said.

“In an attempt to protect corruption, the State government is trying to weaken Lokayukta, by creating the ACB. I could not attend the session, in which creation of the ACB was tabled, due to health issues. I am not playing double standards in this regard,” Kumaraswamy clarified.

He said, even though he?has three charges against him in Lokayukta, he will not allow weakening of the institution for people's welfare, he said.

Bengaluru, Feb 19: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa is facing major dissent within the party and the BJP MLAs held a meeting on Tuesday night at former Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar's residence to discuss the functioning of Yediyurappa-led government, said BJP sources.

According to BJP sources, some of the unhappy BJP leaders and MLAs met last night at Shetter's place and expressed that they are not satisfied with Yediyurappa's leadership.

Last night's meeting shows that party leaders are looking to bring down Yediyurappa from the Chief Minister's post by sending a clear message to the high command that Yediyurappa is incapable of continuing as the CM, said BJP sources.

Other sources in BJP have also asserted that BJP leadership in Karnataka is looking for a "leader" who can lead the party in upcoming elections which is going to be held after three years. At this point of time, it's crucial for BJP to promote second-line leadership.

Meanwhile, a letter is being circulated in the BJP party forum and over social media against Chief Minister Yediyurappa's leadership.

It looks like the same team which is unhappy with Yediyurappa's leadership is trying to convey the same message to their high command. The letter which is being circulated says to be written by one of these leaders' groups against Yediyurappa and his son Vijayendra.

On this, Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy told media, "Maybe the letter is written by the same MLAs because after the expansion of Karnataka cabinet so many leaders from BJP were kept out."

"There is a lot of discontent among BJP MLAs that the ones who have toiled for the party day and night have been neglected from the cabinet expansion. This will definitely result in destabilisation in the government," said Eshwar Khandre, KPCC Working President.

Now party high command needs to look into Karnataka leadership to manage the government in the state.

"Now BJP leadership in Karnataka and Delhi need to look into the matter and need to solve the issue after cabinet expansion," said a BJP leader.

Dubai, May 18: An Indian working in a mining company in the UAE has become the latest expatriate to have lost his job for hate-filled social media posts targeting Islam and Muslims.

Brajkishore Gupta was fired without notice for calling Indian Muslims 'coronavirus spreaders' and hailing the Delhi violence as 'divine justice' in his Facebook posts.

Gupta, who is from Chapra, Bihar, was employed by Stevin Rock, a mining company headquartered in Ras Al Khaimah city.

"This isolated incident involving a junior employee was investigated and dealt with immediately resulting in the termination without notice of this person's employment with Stevin Rock," said the company's business development and exploration manager Jean-Francois Milian.

"Our company policy supports the direction of the UAE government in promoting tolerance and equality and strongly renouncing racism and discrimination and we have sent communications to all of our employees irrespective of their religious or ethnic background reminding them that any such behaviour is unacceptable and will lead to immediate dismissal," Milian was quoted as saying in the report.

Three Indians based in the UAE were either fired or suspended from their jobs for "Islamophobic" posts on social media early this month.

On April 20, India's ambassador to the UAE Pavan Kapoor had warned Indian expatriates against such behaviour.

"India and UAE share the value of non-discrimination on any grounds. Discrimination is against our moral fabric and the Rule of law. Indian nationals in the UAE should always remember this," he said in a tweet.

Last month, Sharjah-based businessman Sohan Roy had to apologise for "unintentionally hurting religious sentiments" through his poem, which alluded to a Muslim religious group.

In March, chef Trilok Singh was fired from a restaurant in Dubai for an online threat against a student in Delhi over her views on the Citizenship Amendment Act.
