South Kanara Muslim Welfare Association felicitates social worker Aboobacker Parkala

Doha, Mar 25: South Kanara Muslim Welfare Association (SKMWA) recently felicitated visiting Hajee K Aboobacker Parkala for his outstanding community services in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts.

The function started with the recitation of Holy Qur’an by Ustad Habibur Rehman (Khateeb of Kundapura Halaady Jumah Masjid)  followed by a welcome address by SKMWA President Abdul Majeed. The guests were welcomed with bouquet by SKMWA past President, Abdul Majeed Moodbidri. Senior member of SKMWA, Ismail Jokatte then presented a brief profile of Hajee K Aboobacker Parkala to the gathering.

He was presented with a memento by President & Senior member, Ibrahim Beary and was also felicitated with a shawl by the members of the association Moinuddin Melaga & Nasser Fashion Line.

Hajee K Aboobacker Parkala then addressed the gathering. Speaking in Kannada, he expressed his happiness on being felicitated by SKMWA.   He spoke on his various community services in Udupi District.

He served the community irrespective of religion with sincerity and honesty, maintaining a clean image, and this is why recently Udupi Sri Krishna Matt has felicitated him by giving a ‘Geetha Yoganugraha award’ on December 14th 2013.  This type of felicitation from Hindu Community  was given to Muslims after 80 years. First one has been given to Haji  Abdul Sait the founder of Corporation Bank.

He is the honorary President of Balakedara Vedike, Deinagara, Parkala. He is the President of Attradi Juma Masjid and trustee of Manipal Masjid. He is also Rotarian PHF ( Paul Harry Fellow).

He has settled nearly 823 cases of family disputes, other disputes  & Matrimonial disputes (for all communities) . He got 87 cases of accidents admitted to Manipal & Udupi Hospitals in his own expenses.

Large number of SKMWA members attended the gathering.

Mohammed Imran, Joint Secretary of SKMWA proposed the vote of thanks while Mohammed Shameem was the MC for the event. A dinner was served to the gathering.

Mangaluru, May 22: An elderly cardiac patient from Dakshina Kannada, who was stranded in Saudi Arabia due to covid-19 lock-down, has finally reached his homeland thanks to the timely intervention by Humanity Forum Jubail and Indian Social Forum.

The elderly man hailing from Kadaba area of Dakshina Kannada was admitted to a hospital in Madinah. However, his condition continued to worsen due to lack of proper treatment. The efforts by his family members to bring him back home had not yielded results.

Meanwhile, one of the relatives of the patient, Ansari Suratkal, who happens to be a DKSC activist, brought the issue to the notice of the Karnataka unit of the Indian Social Forum in Dammam. ISF contacted Humanity Forum president Zakariya Jokatte, who helped the patient to speak directly union minister D V Sadananda Gowda in a video conference organised by coastaldigest.com.

Humanity Forum also persuaded the Indian Embassy to allow the stranded cardiac patient to fly back to India through Dammam-Bengaluru repatriation flight on May 20. 

However, it was not easy for the patient to travel from Madinah to Dammam International Airport due to lock-down and curfew. ISF not only obtained travel permission for him but also arranged vehicle. Jeddah and Riyadh units of ISF helped in obtaining permission letter in their respective places in spite of travel ban imposed by the police. Madinah unit of ISF arranged vehicle for transportation. Zakariya Jokatte bore the air ticket and other expenses of the patient.

Dubai: A blood donation drive was conducted by Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club (KSCC) at in Al Wasl Club Stadium here on Friday, 26th June 2020.

The drive started around 1:00 pm and continued till 4:00 pm as per schedule provided by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Blood Donation Centre and 60 people donated blood to support the Blood Bank. The drive was well organised by maintaining social distance in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As blood cannot be produced but only can be donated, this drive will help many patients in need of blood during emergencies. Donors were also feeling proud and happy at this moment thinking of saving someone’s life.

DHA Blood Donation Centre staff carried out the screening and testing done in very well manner keeping social distancing during this pandemic. Volunteers of KSCC were also helping the staff to keep people in safe distance and to make this drive a success.

KSCC Manager Mr. Mohammad Shafi and other office bearers were present at the event venue. KSCC thanked the volunteers, Community Development of Authority (CDA), Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Blood Donation Centre, Government of Dubai and Al Wasl Club Stadium for making the event successful.

Dr Soofi Anwar, Director Academics of University of Stirling RAK, UAE Campus, has achieved the prestigious professional recognition of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. He has achieved this milestone through the Stirling Framework for Evidencing Learning and Teaching Enhancement (SFELTE), the Continuing Professional Development Framework (CPD) for learning and teaching at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. 

He was recognized for this achievement on recently concluded virtual Learning & Teaching Conference-2020 organized by University of Stirling Campus in UK.  He has secured his Ph.D. in Management from University of Azteca, Mexico.

Dr. Soofi Anwar has over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership at higher education level and has worked in leading universities in UAE, Bahrain and India. He was conferred the prestigious Middle East Education Leadership Award, as the Best Professor in Management-2018 in recognition of his academic excellence, exemplary leadership in higher education. Prior to his current role, he has worked on leadership position in Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus RAK.

He has completed his MBA from Dept. of Business Administration, Mangalore University in 1999 and his B. Com degree from Canara College Mangaluru.

He has published numerous research papers in management and in the area of teaching and learning in higher education in reputed academic journals and international conferences proceedings. He is a member of editorial board of two leading management journals and engaged in reviewing faculty research publications in the area of management and marketing. 

He is a son of Haji Abdul Khadar Kodijal and Mrs. Mariyamma from Konaje, Mangaluru.
