Speeding car rams into 8-month pregnant woman in Noida, kills her

Noida, Nov 13: A fast-moving car coming out of a parking lot in Noida Sector 18 rammed into a 26-year-old pregnant and her husband. The woman suffered serious injuries and eventually died.

The police, on receiving the information, reached the spot on Sunday night and rushed the woman to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.

The doctors could not save the eight-month-old foetus, said the police.

The parking attendant, who was driving the car, has been taken into custody.

The parking attendant, while trying to bring the speeding car under control, crashed the couple.

The doctors said the husband is in critical condition.

"The couple was out for shopping on Sunday evening in the market of Noida Sector-18, when a parking attendant, who lost control of his car, rammed into them," Shevtambar Pandey, Circle Officer (CO) of Noida Police said.

The police are investigating the matter.

11 policemen sentenced to life for Raja Man Singh murder in 1985

Mathura, Jul 22: A local court in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura on Wednesday sentenced 11 policemen, including the then Deputy Superintendent of Police, to life imprisonment in a case pertaining to the murder of royal Raja Man Singh in 1985.

District Judge Sadhana Rani Thakur announced the life imprisonment sentence a day after holding them guilty of the killing. Three policemen were, however, acquitted. Four men died during the trial.

The policemen were convicted under Section 302 (murder), 148 (rioting) and 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code.

The verdict comes 35 years after Man Singh was killed. He, along with two others, was shot dead in police firing a day after he crashed his jeep into the then Rajasthan Chief Minister Shiv Charan Mathur's helicopter in a fit of anger.

Eight held for playing cricket during 'Janata curfew'

Thane, Mar 22: Eight men were arrested at Kalyan in the district on Sunday as they were found playing cricket during the 'Janata curfew' being observed to check the spread of coronavirus, police said.

They were playing cricket at Kala Talao Maidan in the afternoon, police said.

Police also detained a boy in this connection, an official said.

"Action was taken against them for defying the prohibitory orders issued by the Thane Police Commissionerate.

The Mahatma Phule Chowk Police Station registered an offence against the accused under IPC sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 290 (public nuisance).

They were also booked under the Maharashtra Police Act as well as the National Disaster Act 2005, the official said.
