In spite of tight security, Kannada activists protest against PM Modi

Bengaluru, Feb 4: Activists fighting for Mahadayi water held two parallel protests at Freedom Park to bring the issue to the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

Jana Samanyara Paksha led by writer Champa and pro-Kannada organisations led by Vatal Nagaraj demanded the intervention of the Prime Minister to seek an early solution to the Mahadayi dispute.

"We have abided by the court ruling and withdrawn the bandh call. But we won't sit quietly till the PM intervenes. He can't ignore such a burning issue when he is visiting the state," Vatal Nagaraj said, warning that PM's silence on the issue will force them to intensify their protest.

Champa said it was surprising that the Prime Minister, who speaks on minor issues in his Mann Ki Bath address, chooses to ignore an issue that has put lakhs of people in dire straits.

"We hope that he will have something to say about the issue at his rally today. No political party is coming forward to rescue the people who are suffering without water. The issue needs to be resolved soon," he said.

Highway jammed

Hundreds of vehicles headed for BJP's Parivartana Rally, jammed the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway near Ramanagaram.

Police are struggling to decongest the chock-o-block traffic bound for Palace Grounds in Bengaluru, and smoothen the flow.

Vehicles, mostly cars, have piled up bumper-to-bumper for kilometers and traffic is inching at a snail's pace.

Food arrangements

Food arrangements had been made for the rally attendees from south Karnataka like Mysuru, Madikeri, Mangaluru and several other places, at the Janapada Loka museum junction. They were served tomato bath and kesari bath by the organisers.

Police force

A 13,000-strong police force has been deployed to ensure security and maintain law and order during PM’s visit.

While law and order is being supervised by Additional Commissioner of Police B.K. Singh, traffic management is being taken care by Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) R. Hithendra, city Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar said.

The police have installed CCTV cameras at the venue and are conducting verification drills at hotels and lodges, and monitoring movements at bus stands, the international airport, and railway stations. This was part of the standard operating procedure from Saturday, the Police Commissioner added.

Congress creating confusion among Muslim over CAA, claims BSY

Bengaluru, Jan 5: BJP leader and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa once again blamed the Congress of creating 'confusion' among the Muslim community over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act-2019 while launching a door to door campaign to dispel such rumors.

Yediyurappa was on a door-to-door campaign to make people aware of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and to allay their fears.

"Unnecessarily, the members of Congress are creating confusion among the Muslim community. I assure you that not a single Muslim will be affected because of CAA," said B. S. Yediyurappa.

"Almost all previous Prime Ministers have supported it, now Congress is creating a problem so as to create confusion among Muslims. That's why we are out on the door-to-door campaign," he said.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, seeks to grant Indian citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

Kalladka Bhat leads RSS’ route march against Jesus statue

Bengaluru, Feb 10: The Rashtriya Swyamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Sunday conducted a route march (Pathsanchalan) in Ramanagara to express solidarity with the anti-Christian forces protesting against a project to install 114-feet tall Jesus Christ statue atop Kapalabetta in Harobele town in Kanakapura taluk in Ramanagara district.

Hindutva ideologue Kalladka Prabhakara Bhat, who had led a rally in Kanakapura last month against the project, also led the Sunday’s route march and addressed a public meeting following the march.

“The district name is Ramanagara, but they have not nurtured the culture of Ram here. They have developed a strong culture of Ravana, which we pledged to dislodge,” Bhat told the gathering.

He said the Sangh Parivar will never allow the statue to come up as he said it would foment religious conversion that is rampant in Harobele.

“The so called Kapalabetta is of stones, which are revered as Lord Muneswara by the Hindus. This hillock must be named as Muneswara Betta,” he added.

Referring to the ongoing protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), Bhat said the law was brought in to protect the Hindu minority in Pakistan and Bangla Desh.

“The Muslims living in India hail Pakistan. But when we ask them to go to Pakistan, they will never go,” he took a jibe at the minority community.

Reacting to the RSS route march, senior Congress functionary DK Shivakunar, who represents Kanakapura assembly seat, said the Sangah Parivar is trying to disturb the communal harmony in the district and they will never succeed in it.

“The BJP is operating through the Sangh Parivar in the Ramanagara district. The party has won as may as 26 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, still they are doing all these things to keep their support base. People of Ramanagara will never back them,” said Shivakumar.

Karnataka BJP urges Modi govt to ban PFI, SDPI

Bengaluru, Jan 29: The Karnataka unit of BJP has urged the Centre and the State governments to ban the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), accusing them of harbouring terrorist tendencies.

Addressing a press meet, N Ravi Kumar, state general secretary of the party, alleged that there was a nexus between the Congress, the PFI and the SDPI.

“Recent reports have exposed the links between the PFI and the Congress,” he said, accusing Congress leader Kapil Sibal of receiving huge funds from PFI to defend their cases in the Supreme Court.

He also accused the organisations as the ones responsible for the death of 23 Hindu activists in Karnataka. Such incidents have proven that both SDPI and PFI are dubious organisations, he said.
