Sri Lanka bomb blasts: 14 geologists from Karnataka return safely

Mysuru, Apr 25: Fourteen members of five family of Geologists and BJP leader, who were on tour of Sri Lanka where series bomb blast claimed lives of more than 300 people, have returned safely to the city.

BJP leader M V Ravi Shankar, also a Geologist, after his return to the city, said they landed in Colombo on April 19. Though we wanted to visit other Tourist places in Sri Lanka, we changed the plan since we got message from our friends and relatives about blast on Sunday. There were no internet in the entire Island after the incident.

Since the situation was very grave we wanted to return to India on April 23, but since there was no flights we were forced to stay and return on April 24.

Mangaluru, July 28: In an unexpected development, the government of Karnataka has transferred Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh.

The development comes days after the IAS officer warned of legal action against those attacking cattle traders in the region.

Another IAS officer Dr Rajendra K V who was the CEO of Belagavi Zilla Panchayat, has been transferred and posted as the new Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.

Dr Rajendra is a medical doctor graduated from Bapuji Medical College, Davangere. He had secured the 32nd rank in the civil services examination in 2013.

Sindhu B Rupesh had taken over as DK DC in September 2019.  Now, she is posted as the director, electronic delivery citizen services (EDCS), DP & AR (e governance) Bengaluru.

Bengaluru, Jul 21: Students who are Covid-19 positive but are asymptomatic will be allowed to write the Common Entrance Test (CET) scheduled on July 30 and 31 for entrance into professional courses in Karnataka.

According to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare for CET, space should be allotted for students who have tested positive. Such students will have to be transported to and from the exam centre in an ambulance.

According to the SOP issued yesterday, candidates with COVID-19 “shall provide a risk consent certificate for taking up the exam.” The SOP also says “they shall inform about their status to the authorities concerned in advance to make the necessary arrangements.”

Udupi, May 19: Within minutes after health and family welfare department announced four fresh covid-19 cases in Udupi district, a girl who had come from central part of Karnataka tested positive for the coronavirus thereby taking the count of cases detected after last evening to five. 

With this the total number of confirmed covid-19 cases in the district rose to 16. Three among them have recovered. One patient died last week. There are 12 active cases. 

According to sources, the 17-year-old girl from Chitradurga had visited KMC hospital in Manipal for cancer treatment on May 16. 

Her throat swabs were sent for corona testing on the following day. Today she obtained a positive report. Hence, she was shifted to Dr TMA Pai Covid hospital.
