"This is my last leg in politics, I know that. I am not hungry for power or fame. I only want an honourable exit from politics," Prasad told reporters after joining BJP here.

Prasad, once a confidant of chief minister Siddaramaiah, resigned from his assembly seat and the Congress, after he was dropped during the cabinet reshuffle in June 2016.

Stating that the impending bypoll to the Nanjangud assembly constituency, which he represented, will be his last election, Prasad said he was hurt by the attitude of Congress and Siddaramaiah.

"Nobody anticipated this moment. Neither I nor you (BJP) could have foreseen this situation. But here we are, and my only assurance of joining the BJP is that I should not be treated the way Congress treated me," he said.

Showering praises on the saffron party, Prasad said that BJP could not have won the mandate of the people to run the nation if it was “anti-Dalit”.

“The BJP?not only emerged as the single largest party but also secured majority on its own in the Lok?Sabha elections in 2014. This could not have been achieved without the support of Dalits,” he said. Prasad said he joined the BJP?as he appreciated and agreed with the “politics of social concern and commitment” practised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Programmes such as Swachh Bharat and Mann Ki Baat appealed to me and I appreciated Modi. This went against me in the Congress,” he added.

Prasad officially joined the BJP?by receiving the party flag from state unit president B?S?Yeddyurappa in?Bengaluru. Prasad also paid the requisite fee of Rs 5 to enrol as a primary member of the BJP. The event portrayed a show of unity among the state BJP leaders with most of the prominent faces including K S?Eshwarappa being present.

This man is like a Girgit who changes its color based on environment and situation. Till yesterday this man was blaming bjp and today he is praising the party. Tomorrow he will jump to another party and blame bjp. We cant and should not trust politicians as they have no faith and trust. Money and seat are their belief.

Chikkamagaluru, Feb 21: Alleged Bharatiya Janata Party supporters threw stones at Amulya Leona’s father’s house at Gullagadde near Koppa on Thursday night, after she was charged for making objectionable remarks at a public programme in Bengaluru.

Amulya Leona’s father Wazi said that the incident, which left window panes and doors damaged, took place at around 7.30 p.m. “They are all BJP supporters. They were in a group. I have complained to the police with the names of a few who led the group,” he said.

Three policemen have been deployed at his house since Thursday night.

Amulya Leona, a B.A. student, was charged with sedition after she raised pro-Pakistan slogans at a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Bengaluru.

Mr. Wazi, who owns a two-acre areca plantation and runs a poultry farm, said he condemned the statement made by his daughter and he would not make any attempts to get her bail. “Let the law take its course. I cannot approve of her statement,” he said.

He said he had cautioned his daughter against getting involved in protests. “I told her to complete studies first and later she could fight for poor people. But what she said yesterday is not acceptable. I don’t know what made her so. I hope a probe would bring out who prompted her to make such statements,” he said.

Mr. Wazi said he has been politically active for several years, and had earlier worked for former education minister H.G. Govinde Gowda. He then shifted to the BJP and worked in support of D.N. Jeevaraj, who represented Sringeri constituency last time, and current Udupi-Chickmagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje. “I have worked for the BJP in the past. As Govinde Gowda’s son contested on JD(S) ticket for Sringeri seat, I supported him”, he said.

Meanwhile, a video clip that went viral on Thursday night showed a group of Bajrang Dal activists compelling Mr. Wazi to shout ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’. “I have no hesitation in raising ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ slogans,” said Mr. Wazi, adding that his statement was taken forcibly. “I am a patriot. Many writers, activists and politicians have come to my place over the years,” he said.

Mumbai, May 19: Even as banks in United Arab Emirates are trying to trace NMC founder BR Shetty, a prominent bank in India is seeking to recover loans worth Rs19.13 billion from him and his companies.

A local court has also barred him and his wife from selling or transferring some properties while it hears the case.

In the court filing, the Bank of Baroda said Shetty had an obligation to handover the title deeds of the 16 properties and mortgage the assets with the bank.

The 16 properties in several Indian cities including Bengaluru were among guarantees put up by Shetty and his wife against the Rs19.13 billion ($253 million) loans, according to a May 16 court order seen by Reuters. The court in Bengalaru set the next hearing in the case for June 8.

NMC, the largest private healthcare provider in the UAE, was placed under administration in April after months of turmoil. It disclosed in March it had debts of $6.6 billion, well above earlier estimates of $2.1 billion.

Finablr, in which Shetty has a controlling stake, said in April it may have nearly $1 billion more in debt than previously reported.
