Bengaluru, Dec 1: Govt hospital to give land, water, power; pvt ones to upgrade infrastructure

The state government has rejected the union government's move to partially privatise government hospitals in tier-2 and tier-3 districts.

The Central Health and Family Welfare Ministry and the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Ayog have prepared a draft on the privatisation of treament of cardiovascular, cancer and respiratory ailments in the district hospitals of tier-2 and tier-3 districts. The draft has been forwarded to all the state governments for opinion.

According to the proposal, the hospitals in tier-2 and tier-3 districts will be developed under the public private partnership (PPP) model.

The primary objective is to ensure treatment for cancer (chemotherapy, hormone therapy), respiratory problems (emergency treatment, long-term respiratory problems and lung diseases) and cardiovascular diseases (emergency treatment and angioplasty).

Government hospitals with 50 and 100 beds should enter into agreements with private hospitals for 30 years. The government hospitals should provide the land, water and electricity, while private hospitals should upgrade existing buildings, besides constructing new buildings and procuring medical equipment.

Health Ministry and NITI Ayog will fix charges for various medical services and treatments. Beneficiaries of health policies of state and central governments can avail treatment here.

What minister says?

"The proposal is a move to help private hospitals," Health Minister K R Ramesh Kumar said in a letter to the NITI Ayog.

"Health is a fundamental right. The government should construct super-speciality hospitals on a par with private hospitals to provide treatment at affordable charges to poor sections. The decision of partial privatisation is an anti-public move, which is highly unacceptable," Kumar said in the letter.

"Karnataka government has entered into agreements with Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology and Victoria Hospital for the treatment of cancer, respiratory problems and cardiovascular diseases. Several government medical colleges too are providing treatment at highly affordable treatments," he pointed out.

"Though Health Ministry and NITI Ayog decide charges for treatments, over a period of time private hospitals will hike charges and there won't be any difference between government hospitals and private hospitals," the minister said.

"Creating a sustainable model of healthcare for all, Karnataka will roll out Universal Health Coverage. The government isn't in a position to accept any other proposal," he said.

New Delhi, Mar 2: The bloodthirsty arsonists allegedly hired by pro-CAA politicians in the capital of India to target Muslims, did not spare even the house of a Muslim leader of BJP.

Akhtar Raza, the BJP’s minority cell vice-president for the Delhi Northeast district, is now not in a position to share his pain with anyone.

Even the police hadn’t come to his rescue, when the mob raising “Jai Sri Ram” slogans burnt down his house at Bhagirathi Vihar Nalla Road in northeast Delhi last week.

“They were chanting slogans. Around 7pm, they started throwing stones at us. I called for police help. But the police asked me to leave. We managed to flee before they burnt my house and destroyed everything,” Raza, who returned today to witness the destruction, told media persons.

“Those who attacked us were not locals. They were outsiders. They managed to identify and burn down all the 19 houses belonging to Muslims in this lane,” Raza said.

Apart from all the belongings in the house of Raza, the arsonists also have burnt down six vehicles belonging to his family.

Raza is sad that no one from BJP contacted him after the violence even though he has been serving the party and promoting its ideology for past five years. “No party leader contacted me. There was no phone call. There was no relief or special treatment or anything,” Raza said.

Interestingly, Raza is still indentifies himself as a BJP leader. “I belonged to BJP. I may continue in the party,” he said.

The locality remained tense on Sunday too. On Monday, several groups distributed relief materials among people who had queued up to collect them. In front of Raza’s house is a lane from which several bodies of innocent Muslims have been recovered.

Bengaluru,  Aug 4: Karnataka has seen a substantial increase in COVID-19 recovery rate, which was 5.67 per cent in the last week, state Medical Education Minister Dr. K Sudhakar said.

"Every day there is an increase in recovery rate which is higher by 9.17 per cent in Bengaluru city. The overall recovery rate of the state by Sunday evening was 42.81 per cent and it is 35.14 per cent in Bengaluru," the Minister wrote in a tweet.

Minister Sudhakar also directed officials to resolve the issue raised by a woman who had written to him about her struggle to take possession of the body of her father in St. Johns hospital, Madivala.

The hospital she claimed was charging money to hand over the body.

"It is inhuman on part of the hospital to refuse handover of the body. I came to know about this incident in the media and responded immediately to help out the woman," Dr. Sudhakar wrote in his tweet.

Karnataka has so far reported 74,598 active COVID-19 cases, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Udupi, Apr 2: The Udupi Administration has given its nod to lift and transport watermelons, pineapples, papaya and Mattu Gulla after growers in the district complained that their produce will go waste and start rotting due to the lockdown on account of COVID-19.

In statement issued here on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha said that the administration has already held a meeting with wholesale fruit merchants registered with the Agriculture Marketing Produce Committee (APMC).

It has directed these merchants to purchase 35 tonnes of pineapples, 55 tonnes of watermelons and 5,000 bunches of bananas from growers and sell them within the district and also send them to other districts. Such transportation has been exempted from prohibitory orders, he said.
