Mangaluru, Jul 1: A few residents of Uchila, Ullal and Kotepura villages of Mangaluru taluk whose houses have been affected by the sea erosion urged the Food and civil supplies minister U T Khader to provide them new houses in a different location instead of spending huge amount of money to dump boulders into the sea every year.

When Mr Khader, who is also the local MLA, paid a visit to erosion prone areas on Thursday, the residents poured out their woes and urged him to take necessary steps to solve their problems permanently.

Out of nearly 40 houses on the three km stretch of coast in Someshwar gram panchayat in Ullal, six have been damaged due to sea erosion during this monsoon. Similarly, several houses between Uchila and Kotepura in Mangaluru, the constituency minister represents, have been damaged.

"Give us house at any place away from the shore or protect our property with permanent solution against sea erosion," said Vishwanath Uchila, a resident in Uchila village of Someshwar gram panchayat. Vishwanath's house was partially damaged due to the rough sea waves on Wednesday.

Every year, the government spends crores of rupees to dump boulders promising protection from sea erosion. Let the government provide us land and compensation. We are ready to move from here," said Vishwanath, who suggested dumping boulders is a huge waste of public money.

Mr Khader promised that funds will be sanctioned for immediate relief measures for the residents whose houses have been damaged.

Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said that a proposal of Rs 5 crore will be sent to the government for temporary mesures.

On Asian Development Bank project under the sustainable coastal protection and management investment programme, the minister said that a proposal of Rs 16 crore to find a permanent solution for sea erosion in Someshwar village is awaiting ADB nod. Tenders will be invited soon after the project is approved, he added.

Bengaluru, Jul 27: The Karnataka government on Sunday directed the Director General of Police Praveen Sood to submit a detailed report on the internal security following the United Nations' observation that international terror outfit IS was active in the state.

The UN report stated that Al-Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent, which reportedly has between 150 and 200 members from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar, was reportedly planning attacks in the region.

It also warned that there were 'significant numbers' of ISIS operatives in Karnataka and Kerala. Reacting to the UN report, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the state government has taken a serious note of the report on the activities of IS in the state.

The state government is in touch with the Centre and the neighbouring states to keep a close watch on the activities of suspicious people and their supporters.

"In this context, it has been decided to strengthen the internal security of the state. The Director General of Police has been asked to submit a detailed report," Bommai said in a release.

The state is also keeping a strict vigil on all those entering Bengaluru from other states, the Minister said. He recalled that the state police had arrested several members of Al-Hind organisation in January last and Jamaat- ul-Mujahideen from Bangladesh in 2018 and 2019. He added that the National Investigation Agency is investigating the case of JMB.

Bellari, Feb 23: Fringe outfit Sri Ram Sena leader Sanjeev Maradi said on Friday said that organization will reward Rs 10 lakh to the person who will 'eliminate' those who have raised "pro-Pakistan" slogans including Amulya who recently raised "Pakistan Zindabad" slogan at an anti-CAA protest in Bengaluru.

"We request both state and central government not to release them (Pro-Pakistan sloganeers) on bail. If they will be released Sri Ram Sena will eliminate them or will give a reward of Rupees 10 lakh to those who kill them," said Sanjeev Maradi.

"We condemn such slogans. This is like a virus. First, it happened in Jammu and Kashmir, then in JNU, then Mysore and then a student named Amulya raised pro Pakistan slogan in Bengaluru," he added.

A girl named Amulya raised 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogan on Thursday at an anti-CAA protest where AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi was also invited.

Thereafter, a case was registered under Section 124A (Offence of sedition) of the Indian Penal Code against the student.

Meanwhile, Imran Pasha, the organizer of the anti-CAA protest said that Amulya was not invited to the event.

"We were the organizers of the event. At around 6:45 pm on Thursday, when I and Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi were entering the stage area, we did not notice Amulya was present there. I did not invite her," Pasha told media.
