Stop spending on festivities; focus on education, healthcare: RSS to temples

May 2, 2016

Nagpur, May 2: After advocating for women's entry in places of worship, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) wants temples to stop spending huge amount of money in cultural programmes and instead do charity.

festivitiesThe 'sangh' has appealed to the temple authorities to work for education and health facilities rather than wasting money in organising mimicry shows, fireworks, film shows and animal processions, a report published in a daily newspaper said.

J Nandakumar, publicity-incharge of the RSS, told the newspaper that lakhs of rupees are spent in magic and mimicry shows, which are showcased as cultural programmes.

He asserted that cultural programmes should be held in line with the traditions and there should be no vulgarity.

A huge stock of fireworks exploded before dawn on April 10 at the Puttingal Devi temple at Paravur town near Kollam, killing 114 people and injuring some 350 others.

RSS' new stand comes after the organistation recently said restriction on entry of women in any temple is “unfair” and management in the temples doing so should change their mentality.

RSS general secretary Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi said, “Women go to thousands of temple across the country but in reference to some, where their entry is an issue, there is a need to change the mentality. Management of such temples should also understand this.”

Kasaragod, Feb 17: A Kerala Muslim couple conducted the wedding of their Hindu foster daughter at a Bhagavathi temple in Kerala, scripting another tale of communal harmony at Kasaragod.

The wedding ceremony was held on Sunday.

The woman Rajeshwari tied the knot with Vishnu Prasad in the presence of family and friends belonging to both Hindu and Muslim communities.

Abdulla and Khadeeja adopted Rajeshwari after her father who worked at Abdulla's farm died. Rajeshwari's mother also passed away when she was a child.

Rajeshwari grew up alongside Abdulla and Khadeeja's three sons- Shameem, Najeeb and Shereef.

Earlier in January this year, cutting across the lines of religion, a mosque in Kerala's Kayamkulam hosted a Hindu marriage ceremony.

Mumbai, Jun 14: Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide on Sunday, leaving all his fans and the industry in shock. While the reason behind him taking up the extreme step is still not clear, a look into Sushant’s social media feed suggests that things were not well for him for quite some time.

Sushant had been inactive on Twitter since months. His last tweet was on December 27, 2019. Since then, he did not even reply to any one on Twitter. Same is the case with his Facebook account as the last post on his timeline was on the same date. Interestingly, Sushant's Twitter cover picture is the popular painting - 'Starry Night', by Van Gogh, who had also reportedly committed suicide in 1890.

On Instagram, the young actor had last posted on June 3. It was a collage picture of him and his mother along with a cryptic caption that read, “Blurred past evaporating from teardrops Unending dreams carving an arc of smile And a fleeting life, negotiating between the two...#माँ”.

Was Sushant’s inactivity on Twitter, Facebook and his last cryptic post on Instagram a signal that the actor was having a tough time? Well, may be it will remain a mystery forever.
