Student among 3 killed in accidents; many injured

Kasaragod, Oct 26: Three persons were killed in separate road accidents in the district on Wednesday. Ushalatha, 18, a History PG student of Cooperative College, Badiadukka, was crushed to death after the bus door abruptly opened as she boarded it on her way to college at Poyyakkandam.

In the other accident, P.V. Bhaskaran, 56, was killed and his pillion rider K.T. Satheeshan, 40, suffered grievous injuries as the scooter they were riding collided with a private bus at Chayyoth, near Neeleswaram, at 8.20 a.m.

A migrant worker was killed after a truck mounted with borewell equipment overturned at Moonamkadavu, near Periye, here on Wednesday. Six migrant workers were injured in the incident. The victim was identified as Buddharam, 22, from Chattisgarh.

Muzaffarnagar, Jun 11: Three persons have been arrested for allegedly using plastic scrap to make jaggery at Bhokaheri village under Bhopa police station here, as official said on Thursday.

 Police raided a jaggery manufacturing unite (kolhu) and arrested three persons on Wednesday, SHO, Bhopa police station Sanjive Kumar said.

Police have registered a case against five persons including the trio that was arrested while two of them managed to escape, he said, adding that two loaded tractor trollies of plastic scrap have been seized.

Kozhikode, Jun 26: A man, who had returned from Bahrain on Thursday and has been under quarantine at his house in Villyapallai near here, has been stabbed on his arm by an unidentified person.

Police sources said the assailant, with a masked face, had ransacked the man's house by break-opening the door at midnight lat night and stabbed Lijeesh on his arm and fled from the scene.

The nearby residents took Lijeesh to a nearby hospital and was put back on quarantine.
