Student held for derogatory Facebook post against Tipu Sultan

tipu Koppala, Jan 27: A miscreant has been arrested by the police in Koppala town of Karnataka for posting derogatory comments on Tipu Sultan on social media.

According to the police, Manjunath Mudgal, an ITI student, had posted pictures of Tipu Sultan on his Facebook account and passed derogatory remarks.

He had also defaced images of the Muslim ruler on his account. The incident was brought to the notice of the police by a few local residents.

Fearing a law and order situation, the police arrested Manjunath. He was asked to remove all the controversial pictures from his Facebook account. The police have registered a case.

Coronavirus claims Bantwal woman's life; Uppinangady woman tests positive

Mangaluru, Apr 19: The covid-19 being spread by the novel coronavirus has claimed a life in the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada.

The victim, a 50-year-old woman from Bantwal taluk, breathed her last at Wenlock Hospital today morning.

She was rushed to a private hospital yesterday after she developed breathing problems. Then she was shifted to Wenlock Hospital's block for suspected coronavirus patients, and placed in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Her throat swab was collected the same day and sent for testing for coronavirus. However, today morning her condition worsened and she passed away.

The report was received on later on Sunday afternoon, which confirmed that she had contracted coronavirus.

The woman's family members including her husband, son and mother-in-law have been placed under quarantine. It is learnt that her mother-in-law's condition is serious and she has been admitted to the ICU.

The throat swabs of all the three family members have been sent for coronavirus test. According to sources, the woman's son had come from Dubai recently.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old woman from Uppinangady, who is undergoing treatment in a hospital, today tested positive for the covid-19.

With the confirmation of two new cases, the total number of reported covid-19 cases in Dakshina Kannada reached 15. Out of which only two case are currently active and 12 have been discharged. Another one passed away.

This isn’t Khader’s time to protect culprits: Kota Shrinivas Poojari

Mangaluru, July 29: Justifying the transfer of Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, district in-charge minister Kota Shrinivas Poojari has accused Mangaluru MLA U T Khader of politicizing the issue.

The IAS officer was transferred by the Karnataka government on July 28, a day after a saffron activist issued a death threat against her on social media after she warned of legal action against the miscreants who attack cattle traders.

Condemning the development, Mr Khader had tweeted that the state government has punished the deputy commissioner instead of punishing the culprit, who issued death threat.

Responding to Mr Khader’s tweet, Mr Poojari said that the transfer of the officer was on administrative ground. “It is unfortunate that Khader politicized a transfer carried out by the government on administrative ground. This is not Khader’s time to protect any accused,” tweeted Mr Poojari.

It is worth mentioning here that Mr Khader was the district in-charge minister of Dakshina Kannada before Mr Poojari taking over the position.

Meanwhile, police has arrested a person in connection with the death threat against the IAS officer.

Covid-19: Minister launches mobile fever clinic in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Apr 29: District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Wednesday inaugurated a mobile fever clinic to cure COVID-19 patients.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has converted one of its buses into a clinic in Mangaluru to treat COVID-19 patients.

The mobile fever clinic has a bed for the patient and a cabin for the doctor. There is also a seating facility, medicine box, wash-basin, sanitizer, soap oil, a separate water facility, and fans.
