Student held for derogatory Facebook post against Tipu Sultan

tipuKoppala, Jan 27: A miscreant has been arrested by the police in Koppala town of Karnataka for posting derogatory comments on Tipu Sultan on social media.

According to the police, Manjunath Mudgal, an ITI student, had posted pictures of Tipu Sultan on his Facebook account and passed derogatory remarks.

He had also defaced images of the Muslim ruler on his account. The incident was brought to the notice of the police by a few local residents.

Fearing a law and order situation, the police arrested Manjunath. He was asked to remove all the controversial pictures from his Facebook account. The police have registered a case.

Chikkamagaluru, Jan 19: A Chikkamagaluru court on Saturday were sentenced to death two persons convicted of rape and murder 18-year-old girl in 2016.

Pradeep M, 32, and Santhosh, 24, of Vykuntapura in Sringeri taluk raped a 18-year-old girl while she was returning home from college on Februrary 16, 2016.

The crime in which a first year B.Com student who was walking towards her home in a footway was stopped, raped and murdered by the duo. The killers then had dumped her body in a discarded well.

Mangaluru, Apr 18: A case has been registered against a man for spreading communal hatred by sharing objectionable and sensitive posts on social media, Commissioner of Police Harsha said here on Saturday.

In Twitter Mr Harsha wrote, ” We have registered a case against a person claiming himself as Vishwa, Mangalore for making Statements promoting enmity and hatred between communities on social media with crime number 46/20 at the south police station under 505 IPC.”

He further warned, “We will not spare anyone trying to disturb communal harmony in the district.”

Mangaluru, Mar 27: A youth from Dakshina Kannada district, who had returned from United Arab Emirates earlier this month has tested positive for the deadly Covid-19 caused by the novel coronavirus. With this the total of Covid-19 in the district has mounted to seven. 

The fresh Covid-19 patient is a 21-year-old youth hailing from Karaya in Belthangady taluk. 

He had left Dubai on March 21 and land at Bengaluru Airport. Then he reached Belthangady through a KSRTC bus the very next morning. 

As he was suffering from fever and cough, he was admitted to Puttur government hospital on March 24. Same day his throat swab sample was sent for coronavirus testing. Today it was declared positive. 

His condition is said to be stable. However, his family members and those who were in touch with him are under observation.
