Students polish shoes, sell fruits in protest against Modi govt’s failure to create jobs

Shivamogga, Sept 20: Graduated youths and college students on Friday polished shoes and sold fruits at a bus stand in Shivamogga as a mark of protest against unemployment and crisis in the automobile sector. The novel protest was organised by the National Students' Union of India.

With fruits, banners and shoes in hand, the NSUI members raised slogans against the Central government over unemployment and crisis in Automobile sectors. Students from different engineering and MBA colleges also took part in the demonstration.

"The NSUI is holding a demonstration here because the unemployment rate in the country is increasing. Today the educated youth has no jobs, which is a big problem. The automobile workshops are getting closed. Everyone is on road and our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not doing anything. And so we are polishing shoes as we have no jobs," Abdul Sattar, NSUI member said.

"Our Prime Minister had announced that he will provide 2 crore job opportunities in the country before the election. But there has not been any job. Students have completed several degrees in order to get a job but these degrees are also going in vain. The GDP is at worse, upon that Modiji is closing automobile sector workshops which are adding up to unemployment rate in the country," Vinyas, MBA student told ANI.

He further added that the Prime Minister also promised of sending Rs 15 lakh in our bank accounts but the promises were never fulfilled. The youth are suffering the brunt of bad policies.

Bengaluru, Jun 5: With the easing of COVID-19 lockdown norms under unlock 1.0, the Karnataka government on Thursday permitted state transport buses to operate even during the night curfew hours 9 pm to5 am.

Autos, taxis and cabs have also been given permission to operate during these hours for picking commuting passengers from pickup points or bus stands.

Chief Secretary T M Vijay Bhaskar in an order said, state transport corporations (BMTC, KSRTC, NEKRTC and NWKRTC) buses have been allowed to operate during night curfew hours from 9 pm to 5 am.

On the basis of their bus tickets, passengers would be allowed to commute to bus stand or from there to home, in accordance with the COVID-19 control measures, SOPs and other guidelines, it said.

Further, during the curfew hours autos, taxis and cabs have been given permission to pick commuters from pickup points or bus stands, it added.

Earlier, the government had revised the night curfew time from the previous 7 pm-7 am to 9 pm-5 am, and said the movement of individuals shall remain strictly prohibited between 9 pm and 5 am throughout the state, except for essential activities.

The government has also said that jungle lodges and resorts, also private organisations providing similar facilities, along with activities they provide like safari, trekking among others would be permitted from June 8, in compliance with the guidelines and SOP issued and following the social distancing norms.

Mangaluru, Jul 2: As many as 90 persons have tested positive for covid-19 in last 24 hours in Dakshina Kannada district. 

With this, the total number of coronavirus positive cases in the district mounted to 915. 

Out of the 90 positive cases, fifteen persons had returned from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Dubai. A BJP MLA, DHO and a pathologist are also among those who infected.

Bengaluru, Mar 19: In the backdrop of coronavirus pandemic, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has reported huge revenue losses in March.

According to official data, the cumulative revenue loss in all services from March 1 till March 18 has amounted to around Rs 8,58,86,462 crores.

This includes cumulative revenue loss of Rs 5,33,82,456 in premium services, and cumulative revenue loss of Rs 3,25,04,006 in non-premium services.

The highest reported revenue loss in all services was reported on March 18, which amounted to Rs 1,90,25,183.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the state have reached 15, according to the Karnataka Health Minister.

A total of 169 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in India so far, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Thursday.
