Sunanda Pushkar leaves behind a fortune, but no will

Sunandas_PropertyNew Delhi, Jan 23: As Delhi police investigates death of Sunanda Pushkar Tharoor, she has left properties, investments, watches and antiques worth millions in India, UAE and Cananda.

As per the declaration of assets filed by Sunanda Pushkar Tharoor to government of India, she owned 12 flats in Dubai worth around Rs93 crore and also a house in Ontario in Canada, which is also worth around Rs3.5 crore as per official records. Shiv Menon, her son from second husband, lives in one of the Dubai flats. Shashi Tharoor and Sunanda, as per the law, have filed their annual asset declaration statements on 31st January 2013, which also mentions her shares, deposits and cash in various currencies valuing to around Rs seven crores.

In tandem with her exquisite style, Sunanda inherited a collection of antique shahtoosh shawls from her grandmother worth around Rs30 lakh. She has also kept an antique armour and a Humayuni sword from Mughal Emperor Humayun’s era in a storage in Canada, the value of which is unknown.

In absence of a formal will it is to be seen who will inherit her property. “As for as I know, she has not left any will. If that would have been the case, we would have known that,” said her close friend. Sunanda, known for her style and fashion sense also had jewellery worth around Rs two crore in lockers in Dubai, besides an exotic collection of 25 foreign watches worth around Rs five crore.

At her native place in north Kashmir, Sunanda, owns land worth Rs12 lakh and had purchased two cars worth Rs five lakh and Rs nine lakh in Dubai and Delhi respectively. She had clarified that she is not involved in any businesses, but occasionally practiced as real estate consultant in the UAE, which remained her place of domicile.

Sunanda was found dead inside hotel room in Delhi last Friday and SDM inquiry has established she has died of poisoning. Police is investigating whether the dead was homicidal, suicidal or accidental and is awaiting detailed toxicology report of viscera.

Bhopal, Jul 25: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Saturday he has tested positive for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Chouhan made the announcement in a series of tweets.

“My dear countrymen, I had symptoms of COVID-19 and after the test, my report has come back positive. I appeal to all my colleagues that whoever came in contact with me, must get their corona test done. And my close contacts should quarantine themselves,” Chouhan said in a tweet in Hindi.

“If COVID19 is treated on time, a person is completely cured. I have been reviewing the status of corona infection every evening since March 25. I will try to review corona situation through video conferencing as much as possible now,” he added.

The chief minister said the review meeting will now be held by home minister Narottam Mishra, urban development and administration minister Bhuppendra Singh, health education minister Vishvas Sarang and health minister Dr Prabhuram Choudhary in his absence.

“I will also continue to do everything possible to help control COVID19 in the state during treatment,” he said.

One of Chouhan’s ministerial colleagues tested positive for Covid-19 late on July 22.

The chief minister along with the minister, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit president VD Sharma and state unit general secretary (organisation) Suhas Bhagat had visited Lucknow in a government plane on July 21 to attend the funeral of MP governor Lalji Tandon who died away in the Uttar Pradesh capital, his hometown. during hospitalisation.

The minister is admitted to a private medical college’s teaching hospital in Bhopal.

New Delhi, Mar 25: The government is likely to agree an economic stimulus package of more than Rs 1.5 lakh crore ($19.6 billion) to fight a downturn in the country that is currently locked down to stem the spread of coronavirus, two sources familiar with the matter told news agency.
The government has not yet finalised the package and discussions are ongoing between Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office, the finance ministry, and Reserve Bank of India (RBI), said both the sources, who asked not to be named as the matter was still under discussion.

One of the sources, a senior government official, said the stimulus plan could be as large as Rs 2.3 lakh crore, but final numbers were still in discussion.

The package could be announced by the end of the week, both sources added.

New Delhi, Jul 15: Air India has started the process of identifying employees, based on various factors like efficiency, health and redundancy, who will be sent on compulsory leave without pay (LWP) for up to five years, according to an official order.

The airline's board of directors have authorised its Chairman and Managing Director Rajiv Bansal to send employees on LWP "for six months or for a period of two years extendable upto five years, depending upon the following factors - suitability, efficiency, competence, quality of performance, health of the employee, instance of non-availability of the employee for duty in the past as a result of ill health or otherwise and redundancy", the order said on Tuesday.

The departmental heads in the headquarter as well as regional directors are required to assess each employee "on the above mentioned factors and identify the cases where option of compulsory LWP can be exercised", stated the order dated July 14.

"Names of such employees need to be forwarded to the General Manager (Personnel) in headquarter for obtaining necessary approval of CMD," the order added.

In response to queries regarding this matter, Air India spokesperson said,"We would not like to make any comment on the issue."

Aviation sector has been significantly impacted due to the travel restrictions imposed in India and other countries due to the coronavirus pandemic. All airlines in India have taken cost-cutting measures such as pay cuts, LWP and firings of employees in order to conserve cash flow.

For example, GoAir has put most of its employees on compulsory LWP since April.

India resumed domestic passenger flights from May 25 after a gap of two months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the airlines have been allowed to operate only a maximum of 45 per cent of their pre-COVID domestic flights. Occupancy rate in Indian domestic flights has been around 50-60 per cent since May 25.

Scheduled international passenger flights continue to remain suspended in India since March 23.

The passenger demand for air travel will contract by 49 per cent in 2020 for Indian carriers in comparison to 2019 due to COVID-19 crisis, said global airlines body IATA on Monday.
