Teacher arrested for sexually abusing 16-yr-old boy

Kasargod, Oct 30: A 56-year-old teacher has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody for allegedly repeatedly sexually abusing a teenage boy, police said Saturday.

abusThe accused Suresh, who was arrested Friday, used to take classes for students at a Sunday school attached to a Syrian Jacobite Church near Kothamangalam in Ernakulam district.

Suresh, who is a neighbour of the 16-year-old victim, had allegedly sexually abused the boy since 2015 after threatening him. The victim also used to attend the Sunday school classes, they added.

The teacher has been charged with IPC Section 377, (Unnatural offences) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act), they said.

He was produced before a magistrate court yesterday which remanded him in 14-day judicial custody. Three such incidents of sexual abuse have been narrated in the complaint lodged with the police, police said.

Indian law is very weak. Thats why Allah made law will reduce crime.

If u ask the victims family. They will say hang him.

In this matter court should not decide the punishment. The victim or their parents should decide what punishment to give.

Bengaluru, Jan 12: Janata Dal (Secular) chief and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda on Sunday refuted reports of him contesting in the Rajya Sabha elections and added that he is more concerned about strengthening his party in Karnataka.

"I am not interested in going to Rajya Sabha. My concern is to build and strengthen the party in the region to the best of my ability. I had declared earlier that I will not contest elections anymore," Deve Gowda told ANI here.

"My party MP D Kupendra Reddy is there in the Rajya Sabha as of now and further decisions will be taken by the party. In March 2019, towards the end of the 16th Lok Sabha I had declared that I will not contest any more elections," Deve Gowda added.

Four Rajya Sabha seats in Karnataka are about to fall vacant in June this year as two of Congress, one of BJP and JD(S) MPs retire.

Udupi, Apr 5: Excise Department has formed a special patrol teams to check the illegal sale of liquor in the district during the lockdown period.

All liquor stores are closed till April 14 in view of the lockdown to contain Covid-19 spread. However, reports of liquor being sold illegally have come to the notice of the Excise Department.

In a stern warning, the department has stated that officials will verify the closing and opening stock at the liqour stores and if any discrepancy is found the violators will be penalised. The department has received over 20-30 calls regarding the illegal sales.

Bengaluru, Jan 3: Three advocates were appointed additional judges of the Karnataka High Court.

A Law Ministry notification, issued here on Friday said Maralur Indrakumar Arun, Engalaguppe Seetharamaiah Indiresh and Ravi Venkappa Hosmani have been appointed as additional judges of the high court on Thursday. The newly appointed Judges will continue in their post for a period of two years from the date they assume charge.

While the names of advocates Arun and Indiresh were recommended by the Collegium on March 25 last year the name of Advocate Hosmani was recommended by the Collegium on October 4.
