Agra, Aug 6: A Grade-I student's head was stuck for nearly two hours between the doors of her classroom as she tried to escape after been allegedly locked inside by her teacher as a 'punishment'.

The incident took place at the government primary school in Dhobai village of Bah police jurisdiction, 80 km away from Agra city on Saturday afternoon.

Identified as Sakshi (8), the traumatised victim was found unconscious by her guardians and police at school.

"Our kid was given punishment and was locked inside the classroom. She was left alone in the school. She attempted to escape from the gap of the classroom door, but her head got stuck and she kept screaming for help for nearly two hours," said Dasrath Singh, maternal uncle of Sakshi, who came to school, after the victim did not reach home.

The classes were over by 1pm, but Sakshi could only be rescued by 2.35 pm until police intervened and broke classroom lock.

Senior sub inspector Rajesh Tomar, station officer of Bah said, "We received a distress call about the girl been stuck in classroom door, after which we tried to contact school principal but she did not pick up her phone. Finding no other alternative to rescue the girl, we broke the lock. The girl was unconscious and we took her to community health centre."

"The girl is now stable, while the education department has suspended the school principal and another teacher in the incident," he added.

Several attempts were made to contact Basic Siksha Adhikari (BSA) Archana Gupta, but she did not respond.
However, a suspension letter was issued by her against the Dhobai primary school principal Tarannum and assistant teacher Mithilesh Verma.

A copy of the letter with the TOI clearly reads: "Prima facie BSA Archana Gupta found the two teachers accused of locking the student in the classroom."
