Teachers take photo of SSLC question paper before exam, sell it to student

April 14, 2016

Pandavapura (Mandya dist), Apr 14: Two schoolteachers clicked the SSLC?Hindi (third-language) question paper the moment it arrived at an examination centre in Pandavapura town on Wednesday morning, shared it on WhatsApp, printed it out and started selling it to students.

teacherShambunahalli Manjunath, a teacher at Jnana Bandhu School, and Manjunath, a physical education teacher at Vijaya High School, were among the first to get the paper when it arrived at Vijaya College of Education, some time after 9 am. They quickly clicked its pictures on their mobile phones and rushed to the office of a civil engineer where they printed it out.

But police got wind of the matter in the nick of time and raided the office.

They found that the paper was circulated on WhatsApp before making its way to the office of K Purushottam, the civil engineer. The printouts of the Hindi paper were found on the table. A laptop had soft copies of not just Hindi paper, but also Kannada, Social Science, Science and Mathematics papers. The police caught Purushottam and Nanjundaswamy, a teacher at a government primary school. But Shambunahalli Manjunath, Manjunath and an unidentified man fled the spot.

Pandavapura Block Education Officer B Chandrashekar claimed that the papers were sent to the exam centres only at 9.15 am. The seal was opened in the presence of supervisors and distributed to students at 9.30 am. “Despite this, it's shocking that the paper was leaked,” he said.

Shivamadappa M, DDPI, Mandya, confirmed that the paper that was leaked was original. “The police caught some people trying to photocopy the paper. It was a scanned copy of the original paper circulated on WhatsApp. They were caught printing the papers at 9.30 am,” he said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party workers belonging to Muslim community are bewildered over the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act. A considerable number of BJP’s Muslim workers have distanced themselves from the pro-CAA meetings being organised by the party in different parts of India.

There is a deep divide within members of the BJP minority wing, with many upset and angry with the party. During its membership drive in 2018 for the minority wing, BJP had enrolled lakhs of Muslims across India.

A senior Muslim member of the saffron party in Hyderabad explained, “We are very upset. There is no one listening to us within the party. Majority of the members are introspecting on their future role in the party. Few are vocal about it. Those, who believe they still have a future in the party, have decided to keep quiet on this issue.”

This is the reason why they are not attending the pro-CAA rallies or interacting with people. If anybody approaches and questions them about CAA, they maintain they have no idea, just like the common man. A member of the BJP belonging to the minority community says they have been hurt by the decision of the government on CAA.

“Shia Muslims in Pakistan are suffering. They have been targeted in that country from time to time. The BJP patronised a large number of Shia Muslims. The Shia community in Uttar Pradesh even sided with the BJP. But what has the community got in the end? The persecuted Shia minorities in Pakistan have not got justice,” the party member from minority community lamented.

There are 400 families belonging to the Shia community in Hyderabad, who have relatives in Karachi and Quetta in Pakistan. These Shias had migrated to Pakistan from the Nizam state after its accession to India. These families were hopeful that after aligning with BJP, there would be a reprieve for them. But the stand taken by BJP has left them in lurch. The CAA provides for granting Indian citizenship only to non-Muslim minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

“We have been left with nothing. Shias have not been politically active in all the three countries of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and have suffered due to this reason. There was some hope in India, but even that has been lost now,” the minority wing leader remarked.

National vice president of BJP minority cell Farid Sheikh Liaquat Ali says, “Party workers and common people are asking the same question.”

I have told them what union home minister Amit Shah has said in Parliament, that CAA is not against Indian Muslims. But people are not convinced. Every meeting or social function that I attend, I find that people are angry and upset. I have been with the BJP for 33 years and whatever I hear from the people is being conveyed to the party.”

The incident that occurred at the madarasa in Uttar Pradesh has led to a pointed question: “If this can happen to Muslims in UP, will it not repeat elsewhere?”

Mangaluru, June 10: Former minister and Mangaluru MLA U T Khader has hit out at the Karnataka government for what he opined that it is misusing the Epidemic Diseases Act to target opposition parties.

The statement comes in the backdrop of state government’s move to scuttle oath taking ceremony of KPCC president designate D K Shivakumar.

Asserting that the oath taking will be a grand affair, Mr Khader said that Congress will not be browbeaten by the tactics of the BJP.

Citing the blatant violation of all norms laid down under the Act by minister for health B R Sriramulu at Chitradurga earlier this month, Khader told reporters that the BJP is using the Act for its narrow political gains.

“KPCC has twice deferred swearing in ceremony of Shivakumar after being given the oral go ahead,” Khader claimed, adding the state government must explain to people the issue it has with the Congress organising this function.

Referring to the back-to-back virtual political rallies – one for Bihar and the other for Odisha – on Sunday and Monday that union home minister Amit Shah conducted, Khader wondered if the Act did not apply to the BJP leadership.
