Bengaluru, Apr 28: A 26-year-old software engineer and mother of a newborn died after accidentally falling from the balcony of her eighth floor apartment in Begur Koppa, here.

techieShe was said to be drying her hair while peeping out of her bedroom window when she slipped and fell.

The deceased, Chandana Nagesh, a software engineer with Infosys, was on maternity leave and had delivered a baby boy six days ago, the police said.

Her mother and mother-in-law, who had come to look after the baby, were at home when the incident occurred around 6.30 pm on Tuesday at the SNN Raj Serenity gated community on Begur Main Road, Yelenahalli, off Bannerghatta Road.

Chandana had just taken a shower and come to the bedroom to dry her hair. She had opened the sliding glass window and was peeping out when she slipped and crashed straight on the cement floor below. Chandana's mother-in-law Meenakshi and her mother Manjula Nagesh were taking care of the baby at that time.

The guards heard a loud thud from the back of the D2 Block, rushed to the spot and found Chandana lying in a pool of blood. While the guards were going up and down the floors trying to find out from which floor she had fallen from, her relatives had by then realised that it was Chandana who had slipped and fallen. The family members rushed her to a hospital nearby where she was declared brought dead, the police said.

Her body was then shifted to Victoria Hospital on Tuesday night and the postmortem was conducted on Wednesday. The body was handed over to the family members, who took it to Mandya for the final rites.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Electronic City police station and the cops are investigating further. Her husband Abhilash is a software engineer with Siemens.

Udupi, Jan 16: Admar Mutt Junior seer Eshapriya Theertha Swami is all set to take over the reins of Krishna Mutt during the 250th Paryayotsava, scheduled to be held on January 17 and 18.

The uniqueness lies in the fact that the Admar Mutt, one of the Ashta Mutts of Krishna Mutt in this Temple town Udupi, ushers in the new Paryaya cycle (32nd). The Paryaya of outgoing seer Vidyadheesha Theertha Swami of Palimaru Mutt, Admar’s dwandwa (associate) mutt, marks the end of the cycle of eight mutts.

Under the system initiated by the Madhwa philosopher and saint Madwacharya, the seers of Ashta mutts would take turns to worship Lord Krishna every two months. Seer Vadiraja (1481-1601) ended the system and introduced the system of f running the temple administration once in two years.

Bengaluru, Jun 18: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah has accused the BJP-led government of not passing the benefit of the low price of crude to the common man and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps to bring down prices of petroleum products.

Hitting out at the BJP-led government, he termed it as "opportunistic" and said the price of petroleum products were being increased when people were facing difficulties due to COVID-19.

"It is very disheartening to witness and unprecedented opportunistic government which is trying to extract every pound and flesh from the common man, that too when the whole country is suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic. This is in the backdrop of the continuous price hike in the last 10 days," said the letter was written on Wednesday.

The Congress leader said that the policy decisions taken by the government "with respect to managing fuel sources are inconsistent with the prudent measures generally adopted".

"When the price of crude oil was remarkably low in March, April and May 2020, your government was very reluctant to pass on the benefits to the people by reducing the fuel prices proportionately, but, instead, your government continued to capitalise by increasing the excise duty," he said.

He said the government had also "failed" in the last six years to increase the oil storage capacity which could have been used for the country's advantage when the international crude oil price fell really low.

He said the government should roll back the excise duty and help in the reduction of fuel prices.

"The reduced burden will help the common man to have additional money in hand that will be spent on essential goods and services which will ultimately help them tide over these difficult times," he said.
