Bengaluru, Jun 27: The police have managed to arrest two persons after a city-based software engineer fell victim to a scam on a dating website and was duped of Rs. 59.72 lakh.

The victim, Sainath (name changed), had unsuspectingly transferred the above amount in instalments to his girlfriend, who had been fooling the former through constant WhatsApp chats for several months.

According to the police, the techie got to know Arpitha, a teacher (actual name is Rubali and actual profession is cheating, not teaching) on an online dating site. They started chatting on messaging service WhatsApp.

After a few days of WhatsApp romance, the woman requested Sainath to transfer Rs 30,000 to her account telling him that her father was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata. She repeatedly requested him to transfer more money, which all added up to Rs. 59.72 lakh over six months, stated the complainant, who approached police after realising that he was duped.

A team led by the DGP, CID verified the transaction details and found out that Rupali (38) was duping people in collusion with her husband Kushan Majumdar (49). The Kolkata based couple — B.Com. graduates — were arrested on Tuesday and bought to the city.

The couple did not have a steady source of income since 2009. Kushan earlier worked as a salesman. He also dabbled as an actor in Bengali serials, worked as a scriptwriter and as a freelancer in local media publications.

The police said that the couple had hatched a plan to dupe men online. Rupali would log in to the website to trap men. She would use photos of models as her profile photo.

The CID, who are investigating the case, have seized Rs 44,000, two mobile phones and bank passbooks from the couple. Further investigations are under way.

Bengaluru, May 19: In the wake of assurance by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to look into their demands, hotels and restaurants in Karnataka today decided to continue takeaway services for three more days.

Hotels were also exempted from the total lockdown on Sundays in Karnataka - under the state guidelines issued for Lockdown 4.0.

The Karnataka Pradesh Hotel and Restaurants' Association (KPHRA) had earlier threatened to stop takeaway services over refusal to allow dine-in facility in the fourth phase of the lockdown.

B Chandrashekar Hebbar, president of KPHRA said that the CM urged hoteliers to wait for three days, assuring that a decision will be taken.

"We appraised the government over the mounting losses by keeping just take-away services open. Noting that social distancing and other guidelines will be followed, we urged him to allow dine-in facility," he said.

The Association will wait three more days before discontinuing parcel services, Hebbar said.

The government also provided relaxation to hotels from the total lockdown announced in Karnataka on Sundays, he said.

A package for hotel employees such as cooks and waiters, along the lines of those announced for farmers, cab drivers and weavers, was also sought in a petition submitted to the chief minister.

In fact the state government had expressed its willingness to open hotels under the Lockdown 4.0, subject to restrictions. However, the central guidelines do not allow dine-in services.

Though the government has maintained the supply chain of essential items, few shopkeepers have used the lockdown opportunity to charge higher prices for essential items.

Need tough punishment.

Instead of helping with lesser price, troubling the people. These are cruels.

Bhopal, Mar 7: Independent MLA Surendra Singh Shera on Saturday said that he was not in any kind of captivity in Bengaluru and he will meet Chief Minister Kamal Nath soon.

"I was in Bengaluru for my daughter's medical treatment. I was not in any kind of captivity. I will meet CM Kamal Nath soon," Shera told reporters here upon returning to Bhopal from Bengaluru.

Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh alleged that the BJP had escorted four Madhya Pradesh MLAs, including three from his party, to Bengaluru.

"Last night, two charter planes were booked by BJP to take MLAs to Bengaluru. One was a 9-seater plane while the other was 12-seater. In the 12-seater plane, four MLAs were taken to Bengaluru. Out of them, three Congress MLAs Bisahulal Singh, Raghuraj Kansana and Hardeep Dang and one Independent MLA Surendra Singh Shera," Singh had said.

He has accused BJP of resorting to horse-trading in order to bring down the Kamal Nath government.
