Hyderabad, Dec 2: Firing a fresh salvo at the BJP government at the Centre, All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led ruling party will be badly defeated in the assembly elections in Telangana as the ''Allah is with them''.

The AIMIM made these remarks while addressing an election rally in Maqta, Khairatabad in the poll-bound Telangana on Saturday.

During his speech, Owaisi also claimed that the state of Telangana is the safest place for Muslims in India.

''Telangana has become an island of peace for minorities, non-believers, Dalits and other oppressed groups. We need to ensure that this atmosphere of peace is not temporary any more,'' the AIMIM chief said in his speech.

The AIMIM leader later claimed that the BJP, TRS and Congress can't defeat his party AIMIM even if they all come together in the assembly polls here.

Urging the youths to have faith in Allah and believe in their abilities, the AIMIM leader said, ''the Allah will defeat Narendra Modi, Allah will defeat Rahul Gandhi and others as he is with us.''

During his speech, Owaisi also hit out at the newly-announced Congress-Telegu Desam Party (TDP) alliance in Telangana.

On a previous occasion too, the AIMIM chief had attacked the Congress-TDP alliance.

“This is not 'Mahakutumbi' (the alliance of Congress-TDP and others), this is 2018’s East India Company,” Owaisi had said.

He said this while addressing a public meeting at Milad Gound Jalal Bagh Sangareddy constituency in Medak district last week.

''I’ll tell you why Telangana was formed. Now, will decisions regarding Telangana be made by Naidu who sits in Vijayawada? Or by Nagpur-based RSS? By Congress in Delhi?”  the Hyderabad lawmaker said.

N Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP had recently joined hands with Congress for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019.

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister has also been in talks with leaders of the non-BJP parties to put up a united fight against the Modi-Amit Shah-led Bharatiya Janata Party.

Hitting out at Naidu, Owaisi also accused the TDP of supporting the 2002 Gujarat riots.

The AIMIM leader alleged that there were several communal riots in AP during Naidu's tenure as CM.

It may be recalled that the BJP has fielded Syed Shahezadi, a young Muslim woman, as its candidate from Chandrayangutta constituency in Hyderabad, to take on Owaisi's brother and AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi in the December 7 state assembly election.

A novice in electoral politics, Shahezadi, who was a leader of ABVP – the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh - hails from Adilabad in Telangana.

The Civil Aviation Ministry announced an initial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the dependents of the deceased in the Kozhikode AIE plane crash, while the Kerala government also announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each.

Minister of Civil Aviation, Hardeep Singh Puri, who visited the mishap spot on Saturday, said that a detailed probe is already on and the pilot and co-pilot were highly experienced.

He also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the injured and Rs. 50,000 each to those who suffered minor injuries. The other normal compensations would be decided in due course.

Puri said that Captain Deepak Vasant Sathe, aged 59, who commandeered the AIE flight, had a flying experience of 10,848 hours, while co-pilot Akhilesh Kumar, aged 32, had a flying experience of 1,723 hours.

"Deepak was one of the most distinguished and experienced pilots. He had a commanding experience of 6,662 hours and was commander of B-737 aircraft for 4,244 hours. He had also operated to Kozhikode international airport 27 times. He joined AIE in 2013 and prior to that he served with the IAF and HAL. Puri said that even as the flight slipped down to around 35 feet, a major disaster was averted due to timely rescue operations. Local people played an exemplary role and the fire brigade's timely action of cutting the plane body and rescuing the passengers minimised the casualties, he said.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also said that the local people and all rescue and relief agencies did a well co-ordinated job. The state government would also meet the entire treatment expenses of the injured.

Till Saturday afternoon, the total number of deaths was 18. While 149 were still in hospitals, 23 were discharged.

Kolkata, Jan 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said a section of the youth is being misguided about the Citizenship Amendment Act and asserted that it will not take away anybody's citizenship.

Modi also said whoever has faith in India and believes in its Constitution can become an Indian citizen.

“There are a lot of questions among the youth about the new citizenship law, and some are being misled by rumours around it... it is our duty to clear their doubts,” the PM said during an address at Belur Math in Howrah district.

“I want to make this clear again that the CAA is not about taking away anybody's citizenship, but about granting citizenship,” he added.

Modi said that some people with political interests are deliberately spreading rumours about the new citizenship law.

Lauding the youth for speaking against religious persecution of minorities, the prime minister said the energy of the country's young will form the basis of change in the 21st century. The PM is on a two-day visit to the city.

Visakhapatnam, May 7: Unconscious children being carried by parents in their arms, people laying on roads, health workers scrambling to attend to those affected by the styrene vapour leak and residents fleeing were some of the scenes that played out near here on Thursday, bringing back grim memories of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy.

The leak of styrene, a chemical used to make synthetic rubber and resins, among others, occurred in the wee hours of Thursday while people were still fast asleep.

Women and children were seen lying on roads struggling to breath, reminiscent of the infamous Bhopal gas tragedy when a leak from the Union Carbide plant left around 3,500 dead and many maimed.

The worst-hit Gopalapatnam village reverberated with cries of people for help.

Many people fell unconscious during their sleep, a villager said.

Affected people, suffering writ large on their faces, were rushed to hospitals in autorickshaws and on two wheelers.

Visakhapatnam Collector Vinay Chand said 20 ambulances were pressed into service as soon information about the gas leak was received.

Exposure to styrene, also known as ethenylbenzene, vinylbenzene can affect the central nervous system (CNS), causing headache, fatigue, weakness, and depression.

It is primarily used in the production of polystyrene plastics and resins.

The gas leak took place at LG Polymers chemical plant.

LG Polymers was established in 1961 as "Hindustan Polymers" for manufacturing Polystyrene and its co-polymers at Visakhapatnam. It merged with McDowell & Co. Ltd of UB Group in 1978, according to the company's website.

Taken over by LG Chem (South Korea), Hindustan Polymers was renamed LG Polymers India Private Limited (LGPI) in July, 1997.
