Terror attacks are against tenets of Islam: Anjuman

Dharwad, Feb 24: The students of Anjuman School and colleges and members of Anjuman-E-Islam took out a rally in Dharwad on Friday to protest the terrorist attack on CRPF jawans at Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir.

Carrying a huge tricolour, they went in a procession from Anjuman campus to the deputy commissioner’s office passing through important roads and junctions. Led by Anjuman-E-Islam president Ismail Tamatgar, the members condemned the terrorist attacks on India’s defence personnel and expressed solidarity with India in tackling the terrorists. They said it was inhuman and against the tenets of Islam to kill anyone. They said the community stands solidly behind the government in its endeavor to end the terrorist menace and restore peace and harmony in the country. They also condemned the efforts to divide the armed forces on the basis of caste.

The members submitted a memorandum to the DC expressing grief over the killing of security personnel and extended support to the members of bereaved families.

Congress will return to power in Karnataka: says DK Shivakumar

Bengaluru , Mar 21: Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar exuded confidence that the party will return to power in the state and praised former chief minister Siddaramaiah's term.

"I am confident that we will come back to power. Everyone in the past has worked their best to build the party. Siddaramaiah being a full-term chief minister gave the best programs to Karnataka, his government's programs were the best of all time," Shivakumar said at a press conference on Friday.

He further assured his full support to anyone who wanted to work for the betterment of the party.

"Though I have become the state president of the party but I am still the worker of Congress and each of us should work for the party as ground workers. I am ready to give any kind of support to those who want to work for the party. We need to take all caste, communities along for the betterment of the party," he said.

Shivakumar was appointed the state Congress President on March 11, while Eshwar Khandre, Satish Jarkiholi, and Saleem Ahmed have been appointed working presidents of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.

Karnataka reports highest single-day spike in covid-19 cases; total 924 including 63 new

Bengaluru, May 12: Karnataka sees the highest single day spike since the start of the pandemic in the state, higher than Sunday's spike in cases. 63 new cases have been reported in last 24 hours.

With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases rises to 925, said the state health department's bulletin on Tuesday.

While 42 new positive cases reported from May 11, 5 pm to May 12, noon, another 21 fresh 21 cases reported by 5 pm on May 12.

To date, 921 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed. This includes 31 deaths and 426 discharged," the bulletin read further.

Morning Bulletin

New cases in Bengaluru Urban 3, Yadgir 2, Bagalkote 15, Dakshina Kannada 2, Dharwad 9, Bidar 2, Hassan 5, Ballari, Mandya, Chikkaballapura, Kalaburagi (one each).

Evening Bulletin

Cases in Gadag (3), Kolar (5), Bengaluru Urban (1) and Davangere (11) cases.

Cases reported on 12 May: 63

Total cases in state: 925

Pro-Pakistan slogan on school wall in Karnataka sparks tension

Hubli, Feb 24: Pro-Pakistan slogans were found written on the walls and doors of Higher Primary School in Budarsingi village here on Monday, said Raman Gouda Hatti, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), DCRB, Dharwad.

"The headmaster of the school noticed the slogans written on the walls and doors by chalk and he informed us. We will investigate the matter based on the complaint," said DSP Hatti.

The slogans were written in the Kannada language. Those behind the incident have not been identified so far.

The villagers staged a protest demanding action against those behind the act.

Congress leader HK Patil condemned the incident and asked for culprits to be identified and punished soon.

"Anti-social elements are involved in these acts. The government has failed to identify these people and punish them. The culprits behind this act need to be identified and punished. This incident is unfortunate and the intelligence department should work to stop these kinds of incidents," said Patil.
