"The court has granted four-day remand to interrogate them on charges filed against them," an NIA counsel told reporters later.

The NIA teams arrested the suspects on Friday, including four in Bengaluru and one each at Mangaluru and Tumakuru, which are 350 km and 70 km from here.

Five suspects Asif, Ahad, Mohammed Sohil, Mohammed Afzal and Syed Mujaid Pasha were present in the court, while sixth suspect Najmal Huda was being brought to the city from Mangaluru on transit remand.

"The raids and arrests are part of the nationwide security steps being taken to prevent any incident and avoid panic in the public," Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara told reporters on Friday.

"Raids were conducted on a tip-off that the suspects were planning bomb attacks on Republic Day (January 26) in the city or other places in the state to cause panic or seek publicity," a anti-terrorist squad official said on anonymity.

On alert and inputs from the home ministry, the state police have also taken steps to beef up security across the southern state, especially in and around Bengaluru, with additional deployment at sensitive and vital installations.

Bengaluru, Jun 11: Most COVID-19 deaths in Karnataka occur when infected elderly people, those with Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) or any other symptoms delay reaching designated hospitals, a top official said.

Munish Moudgil, chief of COVID-19 War Room in the state, said most of those infected with the virus are brought to COVID-19 designated hospitals at a very late stage and recovery then becomes extremely tough.

He said about 65 per cent of those killed suffered from SARI and are aged above 60.

The death rate due to SARI is 43 per cent for those in the 40-60 age group, he said, releasing data on coronavirus deaths, to reporters.

In the same age group, the mortality due to Influenza Like Illness (ILI) was 17.4 per cent, whereas it is 11.1 per cent among people aged above 60 .

He said 25 per cent of symptomatic patients aged above 60 die due to the virus, while it was 10.7 per cent in the 40-60 age group.

The fatalities among those aged 60 is high even if they are asymptomatic, Mr Moudgil, who is secretary in the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, said.

He said the average number of days spent at these hospitals by those who recovered is about 15 days, compared to 3.5 days for those who died of the virus.

Bengaluru, Jan 13: RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat on Monday held a protest march at Ramnagar district’s
Kapalabetta under the aegis of Hindu Jagran Vedike’s ‘Kanakapura Chalo’ campaign against the construction of the world’s largest Jesus statue there.

Hundreds of protesters of the Vedike staged a protest march in the city starting from the Kanakapura Ayyappaswamy temple.

“We are not here to disturb the peace. We have met each other at the wedding of Sriramulu’s daughter. So you know who I am, DK Shivakumar. How long will you continue with these lies? Is the intention behind the statue of Jesus to solidify your vote bank? Build the statue in America or England, we will not allow it here,” said the RSS leader as the keynote speaker at the rally.
