Panaji, Nov 23: Playing a conventional Indian woman in Thappad was a huge task, says Taapsee Pannu, who has established herself in the film industry by essaying fiery and radical characters.

The actor, known for films such as Pink, Mulk and Badla, said the upcoming film is an ode to India women and explores gender dynamics in relationships.

"Thappad" reunites Taapsee with her "Mulk" director Anubhav Sinha.

"Thappad' is about those said-unsaid things women are supposed to do. For years we have been living like that. It raises questions like why women need to be a certain way?'

I'm playing this average Indian woman, who is also taught to be a certain way. The biggest challenge for me and Anubhav sir was how to rip that fiery image off me because audiences are used to seeing me doing something radical, the actor told PTI on the sidelines of the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

Taapsee, 32, discussed the idea with Anubhav during Mulk promotions but playing Amrita, her character in the film, was a "claustrophobic" experience.

"I was relieved after finishing Thappad'. It was so claustrophobic to be Amrita. There were times I felt like I want to punch you in the face'. But then I realised if I don't go deep, the message will also remain on the surface.

There were a lot of times when I instinctively reacted in a scene as the real Taapsee would. But I was stopped there. I was sometimes gasping for breath," she added.

Thappad will hit the screens on March 6, two days before the International Women's Day.

Chennai, Mar 12: Superstar Rajinikanth on Thursday clarified that he never aspired to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and said his plans for politics include different heads for his prospective party and a possible government headed by it.

In his first official press conference since December 31, 2017, when he announced to take the political plunge, the veteran star also said he planned to appoint as CM, an educated youth who was compassionate and had self-respect.

With a two-leadership system for party and the government, the former would act as an "opposition" to highlight issues and would not even hesitate to "remove", apparently the head of the government, if it fails to perform, he said.

His prospective party would focus on including a substantial amount of youngsters in the age group of below 45 years while the rest would comprise retired judges and IAS and IPS officials among others.

"I myself would reach out to them and invite them," to join him, the 69-year-old actor said.

Contrary to expectations, he however, did not make a concrete statement on floating his party but called for an "uprising" by youth, after which he would make his formal political entry.

Indore, Jan 14: Yoga guru Ramdev has said that Deepika Padukone should hire persons like him for offering correct advice, days after the actress had visited Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi following the violence at the campus earlier this month.

"Deepika Padukone needs to study about political, social and cultural issues. She should understand more about our country. Only after gaining knowledge, she should take decisions. I feel she should have persons like Swami Ramdev for correct advice," Ramdev said at an event here on Monday.

On January 7, Padukone joined the protest at JNU after a masked mob entered the varsity campus and attacked the students and teachers with sticks and rods on January 5.

Several BJP leaders questioned the support extended by Padukone. On the other hand, the Congress threw their weight behind the actress for her stand.
