There’s no coalition between Cong and JD(S): says K S Eshwarappa

Hubballi, Apr 2: BJP leader K S Eshwarappa took a dig at coalition partners Congress and JD(S), saying minister G T Devegowda keeps himself away from Congress campaign rallies in Mysuru Lok Sabha constituency, and the photos of former chief minister Siddaramaiah were absent in the hoardings of Congress-JD(S) Parivarnata Samavesh held in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Eshwarappa attacked the Congress-JD(S) coalition government, saying they claiming their alliance is only for public consumption. “But in reality, there is no coalition between them. If coalition was strong, they would have announced their candidates for all Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. Despite being allies, they are still struggling to finalise tickets at many constituencies. Siddaramaiah himself has admitted that there still is confusion, and they are resolving it. Don’t know when they sort things out,” he said.

The former deputy chief minister said BJP has already announced candidates for all the constituencies, and also has started campaigning. When asked about the tussle in Chikodi constituency, Eshwarappa said it will be resolved soon.

While addressing a meeting of backward communities leaders early in the day, Eshwarappa claimed during B S Yedyurappa’s tenure as the chief minister, BJP had sanctioned Rs 95 crore for the welfare of 39 communities, and had given grants up to Rs 5 crore to construct mutts and hostels of backward communities. “No government, including the previous one led by Siddaramaiah, has given such huge grants for these communities. When we confronted Siddaramaiah about the same in the legislative council, he gave an evasive reply and made light of the query,” he added.

“Though BJP works on Hindutva principles, it’s eager to uplift the backward communities. The initiatives of the central government stand testimony to this,” he claimed.
