Kolar, Sep 9: There is alarm over the outbreak of Brucellosis disease in Kolar district following the detection of Brucella abortus bacterium in 998 cattle, including 258 cows. Symptoms of Brucellosis have been found in animals at Rakshith Farm owned by Kolar MLA Varthur R Prakash.

cattleAlso known as 'bangs disease' and `contagious abortion', Brucellosis spreads from the vaginal discharge of an infected cow or from an aborted foetus. It's said to have no treatment and the disease poses a major risk as milk consumed from the infected cows can cause undulant fever among humans.

Animal husbandry department's deputy director (Kolar) S Channakeshava said: “We have been screening the animals for Brucellosis for the past one year and 258 cows tested positive. We have ordered culling of these cows and directed farm owners to bury the carcasses deep in the soil to prevent contamination.”

Meanwhile, Animal Husbandry Minister A Manju said that there was no need to cull the brucellosis infected cattle in the diary. Manju told media persons in Bengaluru that an 11-member expert committee constituted by the department had opined that there was no need to cull over 900 animals that had tested positive for brucellosis, as the disease was endemic.

The committee has in turn advised that the infected animals be quarantined in an isolated area in the farm. The animals will be kept in isolation for at least three months, before another round of tests are conducted. If they test positive again, then they will be continued to be kept in isolation. The committee has recommended that the animals should not be used for breeding purposes and taken out of the farm.

The farm, which commenced operations a year ago at Begli village on the outskirts of Kolar (about 70km from Bengaluru), has over 2,500 cross-bred cows brought from Maharashtra by Prakash. Though animal husbandry staff detected Brucellosis several months ago, they reportedly did not raise a red flag and the issue was kept under wraps for "observation and scientific analysis".

In the meantime, according to sources in the animal husbandry department, some cows were either sold to farmers in the region or sent to slaughter houses.

The issue snowballed into a controversy after some political activists alleged that nearly 7,000 litres of infected milk were supplied to the local milk producers' cooperative society from Rakshith Farm. They also alleged that Prakash was trying to sell the infected cows to farmers.

Dr T Jayaram, senior deputy director of the department, said Brucellosis disease is a zoonotic disease, is animal borne and can be easily transmitted to humans who come in close contact with affected animals. The affected animal would develop various disorders which results in abortion twice in a row and after two abortions though the animal looks good, it would have traces of the bacteria and spread it to other animals. Any human who comes in close contact with the animal will develop various health disorders, including high fever, joint pain and impotency.

Mangaluru, Jan 16: Following the widespread protests against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), former minister and MLA UT Khader on Thursday urged the Centre and State government to address the concerns of the people.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said there is widespread confusion among the public with regard to the implementation of the Act. People are reluctant to open their doors to Asha workers, out of fear that the NRC exercise is being implemented, said Khader.

He urged the chief minister and home minister to gain the trust of the people on the CAA issue.

Bengaluru, Jan 29: The Karnataka unit of BJP has urged the Centre and the State governments to ban the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), accusing them of harbouring terrorist tendencies.

Addressing a press meet, N Ravi Kumar, state general secretary of the party, alleged that there was a nexus between the Congress, the PFI and the SDPI.

“Recent reports have exposed the links between the PFI and the Congress,” he said, accusing Congress leader Kapil Sibal of receiving huge funds from PFI to defend their cases in the Supreme Court.

He also accused the organisations as the ones responsible for the death of 23 Hindu activists in Karnataka. Such incidents have proven that both SDPI and PFI are dubious organisations, he said.

this is the first organization fighting against corrupt and injustice following the principle of our father of nation mahatma Gandhi’s.

the corrupt and injustice people in the society not ready to accept their policy and trying to stop the voices of justice to the society.

RSS is the most active and first ever terrorist organisation in India and it should be banned first.    There is no proof of terrorist activities by SDPI and PFI.    BJP is afraid of these organisations as they give tought resistance to BJP and this is the reason why its planning to ban these organisations.    BJP is doing propoganda only.   Real thread for peace + harmoney in India by sanghis.   We should ban them first.

Mangaluru, June 13:  The Central Crime Branch of Bengaluru City Police, which is digging up old cases involving underworld gangster Ravi Pujari, has now launched a fresh probe into the murder of human rights lawyer Naushad Kashimji.

Kashimji was gunned down on April 9, 2009 at the basement of his apartment in Falnir in Mangaluru. Ravi Pujari had allegedly ordered the hit.

As part of investigation, a team from Benglauru CCB has come to Mangaluru. CCB sleuths, who obtained Pujari’s police custody in connection with this case, are tying up the loose ends pertaining to the murder of Kashimji who was representing D-Company hitman Abdul Rashid Hassan Malbari aka Malbari.

Pujari was said to be unhappy over Kashimji representing Malbari. Pujari had also allegedly issued life threats, directing him to desist from doing so.

Kashimji had reportedly received more than 10 international threat calls from March 30 to April 9 (the day he was murdered). According to a senior police officer, the advocate had not informed the police or his then senior Purushottam Poojary about receiving the threat calls. “This came to light when police went through his call records later,” the officer explained.

“CCB team is primarily focusing on Pujari’s role in the advocate’s sensational murder,” a senior CCB officer handling the investigating said.

“We have also lined up other cases in which Pujari is allegedly involved, but had filed the chargesheet against him in absentia as he was then a fugitive,” the officer added. The team is now picking up threads of Pujari’s involvement cases in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts.

Pujari, currently in police custody in Bengaluru, is accused in more than 30 cases reported in Mangaluru from 2007 to 2018. Majority of the cases against Pujari pertain to extortion and extending death threats, one relating to murder, three to shootings/ abduction and one where he supplied money to his henchmen in prison. Police have filed ‘C’ report in 17 out of 28 threat call cases and ‘B’ report in one case. Rest are in different stages of trial.
