'Thithi' wins best film award at Shanghai Film Festival

Mumbai, Jun 19: Kannada film "Thithi" has won the best film and best script writers award at the Asia New Talent Awards in the 19th Shanghai International Film FestivalDirected by debutante filmmaker Raam Reddy, "Thithi," was the only film from India that was selected and screened in the festival.thithi

Elated by the movie's win Reddy said the response from the Chinese audience was overwhelming and he is happy with the experience.

"Shanghai is the first place the film is being screened in Asia outside of India, and I was really keen to see how people from China and different parts of Asia react to the film. The Jury was from China, Japan and Korea and they unanimously loved the film.

"The response from the Chinese audience has been overwhelming as well. It is hard to imagine the diversity of people who have seen and accepted Thithi, and I really couldn't be happier with the experience here!" Reddy said in statement.

Other films nominated in the best film category were "One Night Only (China)," "Hana's Miso Soup (Japan)," "Land of the Little People" (Israel) and "Detective Chinatown" (China).

Based in a small village of Karnataka, the script of the dramatic comedy has been written by Reddy along with Ere Gowda.

"I am really happy that people around the world have seen and loved Thithi, set in a small but culturally rich village in Karnataka, which is my native place," Gowda said.

The director also took to his Facebook page to thank the team of the film for continuous support.

"I dedicated the award in my speech to the cast, especially Gadappa, who are the collective soul of the film. Feeling amazing, thank you everyone for all the support!"Last but not least, the film is still in theatres! Don't miss it on the big screen!," Reddy wrote.

Produced by Pratap Reddy and Sunmin Park, "Thithi" has screened in over 13 prestigious international and national film festivals and won 15 awards.

The movie won First Feature Award for the best debut feature at the Locarno International Film Festival where it had its international premiere in 2015."Thithi" was released accross India on June 3.

The film revolves around Gadappa his materialistic middle-aged grandson, Thamanna, and his confident pubescent great grandson, Abhi. The story begins after the death of Century Gowda, a highly cranky 101 year old man.

Mumbai, Jul 22: Actor Sara Ali Khan on Wednesday treated her fans to an extremely adorable family picture from a Holi celebration during her childhood days.

"Mother, Daughter- Iggy Potter. Riot of colours with Water Slaughter. Mommy so young I almost forgot her. Gulaal we threw, off-guard we caught her. But it was healthy fun with no totter. After all she's mother dearest- the OG Fautor," the 'Simmba' star poetically captioned the adorable Holi throwback picture on Instagram.

In the picture, Sara was seen coloured in Gulaal along with her mother Amrita Singh and brother Ibrahim Ali Khan. Sara looked loveable in the childhood picture as she wore an endearing smile with her neatly tied hair in a ponytail. Mom Amrita was seen smiling along with the kids, while she held little Ibrahim as he smiled and posed for the camera.

The post on the photo-sharing platform garnered more than 6 lakh likes within an hour of being posted.

Meanwhile, on the film front, Sara Ali Khan is awaiting the release of her latest comedy-drama 'Coolie No.1' with Varun Dhawan.

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 25: Malayalam actor Ravi Vallathol, well-known for his acting in television serials and movies, passed away on Saturday at a hospital here, family sources said.

Vallathol, son of drama legend T N Gopinathan Nair and Soudamini, was the nephew of the famous Malayalam poet Vallathol Narayana Menon.

The veteran actor had appeared in around 50 Malayalam movies and more than 50 television serials starting from1986 with the serial 'Vaitharani' on Doordarshan.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi VIjayan expressed condolences on the passing away of the actor.

"He had an extraordinary ability to immortalise the characters with a wide range of emotions," Vijayan said, adding that, his demise was a loss to both theatre, film and TV serial industry.

Opposition Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala also condoled the demise of the Vallathol.

Chennithala remembered Vallathol as a brilliant writer and social activist. Vallathol made his film debut in 'Swathi Thirunal' directed by the late Lenin Rajendran in 1987.

He had also played versatile characters in hit movies movies including Godfather, Mathilukal, Sargam, Vidheyan, Kottayam Kunjachan, Naalu Penningal, Idukki Gold among others.

He has penned more than 25 short stories among which two were adapted into television series.

He is survived by his wife Geethalakshmi.

Mumbai, Apr 29: Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor is not keeping well and has been admitted to a city hospital here, his elder brother Randhir Kapoor said.

The 67-year-old actor was taken to H N Reliance hospital by his family on Wednesday morning.

"He is in the hospital. He is suffering from cancer and he has some breathing problem, so he has been admitted to the hospital. He is stable now," Randhir told PTI.

The actor returned to India last September after undergoing treatment for cancer in the US for almost a year.

In February, Kapoor was hospitalised twice due to his health issues.

He was first admitted to a hospital in Delhi where he was attending a family function. At the time, Kapoor had said that he was suffering from an "infection".

After his return to Mumbai, he was again admitted to a hospital with viral fever. He was discharged soon after.

Kapoor, who has been quite active on social media, hasn't posted anything on his Twitter account since April 2.

The actor recently announced his next project, a remake of Hollywood film "The Intern", also featuring Deepika Padukone.
