Udupi, Aug 20: A pall of gloom descended on the house of BJP worker Praveen Poojary, who was beaten to death three days ago by a group of Hindutva activists for allegedly trafficking cows, and his family is finding it difficult to accept the reality that he is no more.

"These were people known to us. Why did they do this to my son?," sobbed Praveen's mother Baby Poojary, mourning the son who was her oldest and most gentle.

“Those people also must suffer the same way for what they did,” she cursed sitting on the verandah of her house at Kenjoor village, 3km from Santhekatte in Udupi.

Relatives and neighbours find it hard to accept that the alleged killers were people the family had known for years. Many of the attackers often visited his chicken shop and had reportedly had meals at his home in the past.

Pramila Poojary, Praveen's sister, said the family was not well off but her brother had come up by dint of sheer hard work and set up his own business, which was resented by many. He was also a local BJP leader.

Praveen, owned a tempo rickshaw and ran a chicken stall in his village. He headed a standing committee of the BJP's Santhekatte unit.

Ramesh Poojary, a relative, said the way his van was waylaid gave rise to suspicion. “When he was called at 8 p.m., he did not even know it was for transporting cattle,” he said.

Praveen's father Vasu said his son "left at 8.30 pm for some work" at his shop. "At 10.30 they brought him...the police came too, but he died in hospital."

Praveen's classmate Santhosh Shetty said he had never once seen his friend lose his temper, no matter the provocation. "They (the attackers) were Praveen's customers in his shop. Young boys in nearby villages have been indoctrinated and armed with weapons - we have never seen such conflict before," said Mr Shetty.

Panchayat member Geetha added: "He was never argumentative, never aggressive. We cannot believe that this has happened to him."

How can YOU say its illegal,
Cows can be slaughtered if old or diseased. possession not a crime. bill proposed by BJP in 2010 in karnataka made slaughter punishable by 7yrs jail and Rs 1 lakh fine. BUT it did not BEcome LAW.

Bengaluru, Jul 2: Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that the "RSS needs to be defeated to save the country" and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are "destroying the nation".

Kharge was speaking at a KPCC program where DK Shivakumar took charge as state Congress president.

He said that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister are not ready to take accountability for any issues including China, and are instead blaming Rajiv Gandhi Foundation of getting funds from China.

"Rajiv Gandhi foundation utilized funds for the development of the nation and for the betterment of the downtrodden people," Kharge said.

"Prime Minister Modi and Shah both are destroying the economy of the nation, and their policies and plans are the reason for increasing COVID-19 situation in India," he said.

"Prime Minister and Amit Shah never listen to Opposition parties, instead they plan something and their policies are the reason for MSME losses and job losses in the country," he added.

This lack of consideration of Mangaloreans for repatriation was made whole Kannadiga’s in deep sadness, where as many Kannadiga’s were waiting for flights to obtain urgent medical assistance and other medical support back in their home country.

Once after obtaining the news of not having flights to Karnataka from UAE, Mr. Praveen Shetty immediately actioned and wrote letter to concerned departments and ministers under the banner of KNRI. Mr. Praveen Shetty was in continuous follow up with Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka Dr. Ashwath Narayan, Mr C.T. He selflessly given his 3-star hotel to UAE ministry to operate as Quarantine facility to people who are under observation with Covid 19. Also, he joined his hands with organizations in UAE who are extending their helping hand to needy people in UAE.

With the help of likeminded businessmen and professionals, the KNRI forum under the leadership of Mr. Praveen Shetty along with ‘Dubai Anivasi Kannadigaru’ started a helpline called “Kannadigas Helpline” through which they received around 3000 requests for food, medical, legal and other assistance. Bengaluru, Jul 31: BJP leader CP Yogeshwar has slammed Yediyurappa supporters and said the JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy is supporting BJP.

Speaking to the reporters, Yogeshwar said, "Congress president DK Shivakumar and Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former CM HD Kumaraswamy, both are Yediyurappa supporters."

"His words seem to support the BJP. All that Kumaraswamy had said, during our government's rule, are happening including the officers they mentioned are being transferred. He has come forward to support BJP from the back door," Yogeshwar.

While reacting to allegations made by CP Yogeshwar, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar has said that earlier Yogeshwar requested for State Legislative Council (MLC) member ticket and now such people are blaming me without any evidence. This shows his dishonesty to his party and the kind of person he is."
