Three Bodo terrorists killed; toll in Bodo area rises to 34

Guwahati, May 4: Three NDFB(S) militants were today killed in two encounters and two bodies, both belonging to women, were found, taking the toll to 34 in the continuing violence in Assam's Kokrajhar and Baksa districts.

Police said police and NDFB(S) militants were engaged in an encounter at Baksal village in Udalguri district in which a militant was killed, though two others managed to escape.

IGP L R Bishnoi claimed a major attack had been averted as the militants came to unleash further violence in nearby villages.

Police recovered a pistol, a grenade and a mobile phone from the encounter site.

In another encounter, two NDFB(S) militants were killed at Laijanguri under Rangapara police station in Sonitpur district along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

The two militants were killed in an exchange of fire after four NDFB(S) activists hurled grenades at an Assam Police patrol. Two other militants managed to escape leaving behind two pistols, two magazines and a hand grenade.

Bodies of two women, who were feared drowned while attempting to flee at Durmonighat in Barpeta Road police station area, were also recovered, taking the toll to 34 in clashes in the two districts since Thursday.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today apprised UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi of the prevailing situation in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) and the measures taken by the state government to restore peace in the area.

The UPA Chairperson had telephoned Gogoi this morning to take stock of the law and order situation in BTAD areas, sources said.

New Delhi, Jul 24: India reported the highest single-day spike of 49,310 coronavirus cases on Friday, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total COVID-19 positive cases stand at 12,87,945 including 4,40,135 active cases, 8,17,209 cured/discharged/migrated.
With 740 deaths in the last 24 hours, the cumulative toll reached 30,601.

Maharashtra has reported 3,47,502 coronavirus cases, the highest among states and Union Territories in the country. A total of 1,92,964 cases have been reported from Tamil Nadu till now, while Delhi has recorded 1,27,364 coronavirus cases.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 3,52,801 samples were tested for coronavirus on Thursday and overall 1,54,28,170 samples have been tested so far.

New Delhi, Feb 13: The BJP's Amit Shah today said statements like "goli maaro" and "Indo-Pak match" should not have been made by BJP leaders ahead of the Delhi elections.

The BJP may have suffered in the elections because of hate statements made by party leaders, he said, reported news agency Press Trust of India.

The party, he said, had distanced itself from such remarks.

New Delhi, Jul 31: Air India has operated more than 2800 flights and flown over 3 lakh passengers worldwide till now under the Vande Bharat Mission.

"Air India under Vande Bharat Mission Operated more than 2800 flights and flown more than 3 lakh, 80 thousand passengers worldwide till now," Air India said in a tweet on Thursday.

The fifth phase of the Government of India's 'Vande Bharat' mission, aimed at evacuating Indian nationals stranded in various foreign countries owing to restrictions on air travel, will begin early next month, August 1.

"Under Vande Bharat Mission, we have already brought back more than 2.5 lakh stranded Indians from 53 commies," Air India had earlier said in a statement.

Over 7.88 lakh Indians stranded abroad due to coronavirus pandemic have returned under Vande Bharat Mission till July 22, Ministry of External Affairs had said.

The government started Vande Bharat Mission on May 7.
