Three sandalwood smugglers arrested near temple in Puttur

Puttur, Aug 22: Police have arrested three alleged sandalwood smugglers in Kodipaddi under Puttur Town police station limits recently.

The arrested are Poovappa, resident of Ramakunja, Keshava, resident of Aryapu. The police also seized 39kg of sandalwood logs worth Rs 10,000

Police said during the regular rounds, they noticed three persons roaming suspiciously near Kodipaddi Janardhan temple.

When police interrogated them, they were found to be possessing sandalwood logs cut from nearby woods.

The search is on for Dhanajay, resident of Balnadu, who fled spot the spot. A case has been registered at Puttur Town police station

Udupi, Aug 1: A young rider lost his life after a head-on collision between a scooter and a car on K G Road in Udupi last evening.

The deceased has been identified as Praveen Ganiga (24), a resident of Kodavoor in Malpe.

According to police Praveen was riding his scooter on the wrong side of the road. The car was plying from Brahmavar to Udupi.

The people on board car suffered minor injuries in the mishap. A case was registered at Brahmavar police station and investigations are on.

Belagavi, Feb 25: Left Parties will launch countrywide door-to-door campaign from March 1 to 23 against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Population Register (NPR), National Register of Citizens (NRC), Communist Party of India (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference here, he said that CPI (M) and other Left parties were participating in the awareness programme that will conclude on March 23, on the martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekar and Rajguru.

"Till now 13 states have expressed their opposition for NRC and will not implement it, which means more than fifty per cent of country will not have it," he added.

Bengaluru, Apr 29: Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday clarified that Department of Telecommunications has extended the relaxed terms and conditions for VPN till July 31.

"Wish to clarify that it is not extension of WFH. In response to IT Industry's request to facilitate WFH for OSPs, Department of Telecommunications, India had relaxed terms and conditions for VPN till April 30 After discussions with IT Ministers this relaxation in terms and conditions is extended till July 31," Prasad Tweeted quoting Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka Dr Ashwath Narayan.

Earlier, the Karnataka government issued a press statement saying that the central government has given permission to IT professionals to work from home till July 31 in the view of COVID-19 pandemic.
