Thumbay Group to build the biggest Private Academic Hospital in the region

Thumbay Group,established in 1998 and headquartered in DIFC Dubai, UAE announces a major drive to expand its healthcare operations globally as well as in the UAE by building the biggest private academic hospital in the region, thereby establishing itself as the largest private academic healthcare provider in the region. This project is expected to be completedat a rapid pace and become operational in a record time of 15 months.

Mr. ThumbayMoideen, the Founder President of ThumbayGroupannounced the strategic plan of the groupto open 15 more hospitals in the next five years. The group also plans to add a chain of ThumbayEye Hospitals &Thumbay Fertility Centres shortly, as part of the strategic plan. Plans are also afoot to open 25more Thumbay Labs, 100 More Thumbay Pharmacies, 25 outlets of NutriPlus Vita, 25 outlets of Zo& Mo Opticalsand three more University Campuses in Ghana, Malaysia & India,by the end of 2020. With the completion of the above projects the group will employ 6000 people in the next two years, which will reach 15,000 employees by the end of 2020. The total investment of the expansion projectis valued at more than AED 1.2 billon.

The new 400-bed teaching hospital, a 60-chair dental hospital and a hi-tech rehabilitation centreare coming up in the campus of Gulf Medical University in Al Jurf, Ajman. These new projects, once operational, will add to the training and research facilities of students of the various colleges under Gulf Medical University which is on the fast-track to emerging as a research and innovation based medical university in the region.

The new hospital which is expected to be completed by 2017-18, will be the biggest private academic hospital in the region. It is envisioned as a state-of-the-art, purpose-built 400-bed smart facility,which will be the teaching hospital of Gulf Medical University. The hospital will be equipped with modern infrastructure and will also focus on medical tourism. It will be constructed over 3,20,000 square feet area, in four floors, and with over 120 clinics. The hospital will feature a special robotic pharmacy, a first of its kind in the region, and will have quaternary care facilities. The hospital will also have a full-fledged radiology department with PET-CT scan, a first of its kind in the northern Emirates. With the ultramodern facilities of thehospital, Thumbay Group aims to continue its tradition of providing high quality healthcare services at affordable costs. The hospital’s state-of-the-art laboratory will be connected toThumbay Labsand CABRI (Center for Advanced Biomedical Research and Innovation - GMU’s world-class research and diagnostics facility) via an unmanned chute, to offer highly specialized tests and diagnostic facilities.

Among the new hospitals coming up, the ones in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Ghana are in progress, which will be announced in the next few months.

The upcoming dental facility will be a full-fledged dental hospital with over 60 chairs, which will have all dental specialties under one roof, in addition to teaching and training the students of GMU’s College of Dentistry. The dental hospital will be constructed over an area of 30,000 sq. feet in three floors. A hi-tech rehabilitation center hosting a unique state-of-the-art Sports Medicine, Hydrotherapy unit, GAIT Analysis lab and an Ergonomic simulation lab that will promote analytical and therapeutic serviceswill be constructed in three floors in an area of 30,000 square feet. The center will provide specialized physiotherapy services in the fields of Musculoskeletal, Cardio-respiratory, Neurology, Pediatrics and Women’s Health.The center will also train the physical therapy students of the university.

“Across all our hospitals,we will bring together highly skilled professionals and the latest advancements in medical technology.They will be Centres of Excellence in various specialties, providing quaternary care,” says Mr. Akbar MoideenThumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group.

The Group is developing its various hospitals into centers of excellence with Bone & Joint as well as Plastic Surgery & Cosmeticscentres of excellence at Thumbay Hospital Dubai, and Obstetrics & Gynecology, IVF & Fetal Medicine and Cardiac Sciences centers of excellence in Ajman.Thumbay Hospital New Life – Hyderabad, will establish an Advanced Transplant Center in India.

The new hospital will be a smart hospital with the most advanced robotics being used in Pharmacy, Lab & Surgical procedures. Neurosciences, Andrology & Urology centers of excellence will also be established. It will be a quaternary care hospital and will play an important role in offering specialized care services like comprehensive transplant program & advanced oncology services.

“The International Medical Tourism department of Thumbay Hospitals aims to cater to an extensive number of patients and to be known as the preferred hospital for medical tourism in UAE,” says Mr. Akbar MoideenThumbay.As part of the strategic plans, Thumbay Group is planning to open representative offices in 20 countries to educate people about medical facilities and services at all Thumbay Hospitals in the UAE. “We expect to have about 1000 medical tourists daily at our hospitals, in the next 5 – 6 years. It is ambitious but achievable,” says an optimistic Mr. Akbar.

Kuwait: State of Karnataka is enriched with Daasa culture, which had contributed immensely to its literature, culture, art & philosophy. Daasa tradition in Karnataka was part of the Bhakti movement which flourished from around 15th century and it extended considerable spiritual influence over the masses. Kuwait Kannada Koota, a socio-cultural association for the people of Karnataka in Kuwait, organized its annual Daasotsava on 14th February 2020 in remembrance of these saints, thereby displaying the rich cultural heritage of the state. 

The program started with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath, convener of cultural committee. Divine invocation prayer by Mrs. Vasantha Ashok and Mrs. Sandhya Arun set the trend for the event. This was followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the 2020 executive committee, comprising of President Mr. Rajesh Vittal, Vice President Mr. Sandeep Chabba, General Secretary Mr. Praveen Kumar Shetty and Treasurer Mr. Pradeep Rao. President, while welcoming the gathering, spoke about the importance of Daasas in Kannada literature & history and briefed about the series of upcoming programs. Cultural programs started with fancy dress competition by Koota children comprising of all age group starting from infants to elder kids. This program stole the show as the efforts & time invested by children and their parents were clearly visible. 

2019 executive committee was felicitated by the current committee for wonderfully managing Koota affairs & programs. This was followed by the release of Koota magazine “Marala Mallige", comprising of informative articles, drawings, poems etc., entirely contributed by the association members. Event’s main attraction “Vrindavana Leelavarana", a colorful dance drama spectacularly portrayed by 54 Koota children, was very well appreciated & received by the attendees. Association children who successfully completed 10th and 12th were felicitated as a token of encouragement. Executive committee gave away prizes to Kids who excelled in the stage competitions held earlier. Audience was treated to a divine and melodious Bhajan program conducted astutely by the ladies & men. Koota women performed Bhajan Kolata, along with ladies bhajan, in a well-coordinated manner. Vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary of Koota, thanking those who contributed for the success of the event. Another attraction was a quiz competition “Rasa Prashne", conducted efficiently between the programs, by Mr. Mahesh Shiramgond. 

The whole event was planned and executed astutely by the cultural committee under the leadership of Convener, Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath. Public Relations Committee, led by Mrs. Suparna Dambal, welcomed the members in a vibrant & colorful way, showcasing a beautifully erected divine mantap. The event was sponsored by Unimoni, LIC HFL, VSPL, Geetherb, Kotak Life Insurance, Joy Alukkas, Lulu Hypermarket & Total Environment. The program ended with a sumptuous satvik lunch, sponsored by the senior Koota member, Mr. Ramachandran Seetharaman.

Kuwait: Friday Forum Kuwait conducted its 12th inter-school Islamic Elocution Competition at Hotel Rajadhani Palace, Khaitan on 1st January 2020. 

The competition, which was held in the senior and junior categories had participation from 15 Indian Schools across Kuwait comprising of 43 students. In the senior category, Ayisha Wafiya of Indian Community School, Khaitan bagged the first prize and Efrem Joseph of Indian Community School, Amman won the second prize. 

In the junior category, Hima Jameela of Indian Community School, Khaitan bagged the first prize and Fadhel Kandapath of Fahaheel Al Wataniya Indian School won the second prize. Nawaal Yaseen Ebrahim of Indian Community School (SR), Salmiya and Rhruthunanda of Indian Learners Own Academy, Abbasiya won the consolation prizes in senior and junior categories respectively.

This year, the event was fully conducted by the ladies wing of Friday Forum. Dr. Thasneem Amir, Ibtisam Basheer, Toast Masters Ola Rasheed, Fatma Abduhedeid, Shazia Thabassum and Marium Rangat were the judges for the competition in senior and junior categories. The event started with the Qira’at by Saneera Riyas, followed by welcome speech by Dr. Sajna Mohammed. 

The prizes were distributed to winners by Shahina Mansoor, Femitha Faseeh, Dr.Thasneem Amir, Dr. Sajna Mohammed, Zeenath Yacoub, Safna Sayam and Saneera Riyas. The Souvenir for the program - “INSPERIA 2020”- was released during the event by the chief editor Farha Abdul Rahman. The program was compered by Thanveera Noushad and the program convenor Subeana Shabeer conveyed the vote of thanks.
