Tight security for PM Modi’s Dharmasthala visit; temple to be closed for devotees

Mangaluru, Oct 26: There will be no entry for devotees to the Sri Manjunatha temple in Dharmasthala for 24 hours from 2 p.m. on October 28.

This is in view of the security arrangements as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the temple at 11 a.m. onOctober 29, a release said on Wednesday.

Entry for devotees has been barred till 2 p.m. on October 29. The temple administration has requested devotees to cooperate.

The Prime Minister will arrive at the Mangaluru International Airport at 10.15 a.m. on Sunday. He will reach Dharmasthala by a helicopter at 10.50 a.m.

After visiting the temple, Mr. Modi will participate in a function organised by Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, a non-governmental organisation, at Ratnavarma Heggade stadium in Ujire.

He will symbolically launch the distribution of RuPay Cards for Self-Help Group members, who were enrolled under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) through SKDRDP. He will leave Dharmasthala at 1 pm to Mangalore airport.

Alok Mohan, Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) visited Dharmasthala on Wednesday to review security arrangements. Tight security will be in place during the PM’s visit.

Mangaluru, Apr 26: City Police Commissioner P S Harsha on Sunday said that the news about the implementation of seal down in some wards of Mangaluru city is fake and urged the public not to pay any heed to it.

Taking to twitter, Mr Harsha wrote, ''Some miscreants are floating some old speculative…TV news reports of seal down in some wards of Mangaluru city. It’s fake news.....Don’t Heed to fake news.''

Chikkamagaluru, Mar 8: A 20 member armed gang barged into a farmhouse at Gudde Thota near Jayapura in Koppa taluk and looted valuables and cash worth about Rs 12 lakh after assaulting the inmates, Police said on Sunday.

According to police, the culprits covered their face with masks and after assaulting watchman they broke open the main door and tied up Vijayaraghav and his wife Asha before robbing the valuables.

The culprits took away Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and valuables worth over Rs 10 lakh.

Mangaluru, July 13: A week-long lockdown will be imposed in Dakshina Kannada from the night of July 15, according to district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.

The decision was taken in a meeting of elected representatives in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh. The DC is expected to issue guidelines for the lockdown soon. 

In a video message, Poojary said that during the video conference, chief minister B S Yediyurappa asked the administrations and elected representatives of the respective district to take a call on re-imposing lockdown to check the mounting coronavirus cases. 

“We have decided to impose a week-long lockdown from the night of July 15. Hence, people should buy all necessary things for a week before the beginning of lockdown,” he Mr Poojary.
