Mangaluru, Jul 12: In a bizarre incident, a taluk panchayat member allegedly assaulted a doctor at Kokkada village near Dharmasthala after the latter asked the former to be cautious while driving.

Dr Ganesh Bhat (48), an Ayurvedic practitioner, who suffered nose injuries in the attack, got admitted to a private hospital in Nelyadi.

According to Dr Bhat he had been to a temple on Monday morning in his car. Lakshminarayana T M, a member of local taluk panchayat, too had visited the same temple

While returning from the temple, Lakshminarayana moved his vehicle out in the reverse direction rashly without noticing Dr Bhat's car. However, Dr Bhat averted the collision by moving his vehicle aside.

After this, Dr Bhat asked the TP member to be cautious while driving in the reverse direction.

Angered over this, Mr. Lakshminarayana allegedly barged into the former's clinic and assaulted him at around 4 p.m.

Dr. Bhat said that he got admitted to hospital after his nose started bleeding and he had severe body ache following the assault.

A complaint has been filed with the Dharmasthala police, he added.

Shivamogga, May 21: An FIR has been registered against Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi in Sagar taluk of Shivamogga district of Karnataka over tweets on May 11 by the party's official handle about PM-CARES fund.

The FIR, registered under Sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), identifies Gandhi as the handler of the social media account.

The complaint by advocate Praveen KV alleged that the Congress party, through the tweets, has made rumourous statements against the Government of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was trying to provoke the people against the government.

According to the FIR, the Congress party had on May 11, 2020, made false and baseless allegations, claimed misappropriation of PM-CARES Fund and cast aspersions on the Government of India through the tweets.

"A Twitter account handled by All India Congress Committee headed by Sonia Gandhi had on May 11, 2020, published tweets terming PM CARES Fund as PM CARES Fraud. They had claimed that the PM CARES fund is not being used for the public," Praveen KV told ANI on Thursday.

He said that he has collected all the details related to the tweets and account from the handle and filed a complaint in the matter, following which a preliminary enquiry was conducted and an FIR was registered in the matter.

"They had also said that the Prime Minister was enjoying and going to foreign trips with this fund. This is clearly rumourous news against the Government of India in this COVID-19 pandemic situation. In this regard, I had filed a complaint. After a primary enquiry, the Sagar Police has filed an FIR against Sonia Gandhi, who heads the INC Twitter account," Praveen KV said.

Bengaluru, Jan 5: Lambasting Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa over the proposal to rename Ramanagara as Nava Bengaluru, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Sunday said that such a move will be an insult to Lord Ram, after whom the district is named.

In a series of tweets, Kumaraswamy accused that renaming the district was a pretext to sell its fertile irrigated land to capitalists. Yediyurappa also wants to settle a score with me by renaming it, he alleged

"If Yediyurappa wishes to develop Ramanagara, he should release the funds allocated in the budget. If you want to develop it further, you will find support from me and my people. But, don't set fire to the districts' culture and identity by changing its name," he tweeted.

Mangaluru, Aug 7: A woman suffered critical injuries after a speeding car knocked down her scooter and then ran over her at Kadri Kambla Junction in the city today.

The woman identified as Vanishri Bhat (22) a resident of Kedila from Puttur.

A CCTV footage of the accident, which went viral on social media, shows the car hitting the scooter, pushing the woman on road for a couple of meters before climbing over her.

The car stopped when she was under it. A few people including a policeman lifted the car from the front and rescued the woman.

She was immediately taken to a private hospital in Mangaluru City MLA U T Khader’s car which was passing through that way.

She has suffered critical injuries on her head, ribs, hands and legs, sources said. She is reportedly responding to treatment.

It may be recalled that in December last year a lorry-auto accident at the same spot claimed life of a 56-year-old teacher while the auto driver miraculously survived. Following the accident, speed breakers were installed at the junction.
