Tribal woman files case against Yogi for sharing her nude pic on social media

New Delhi, Jun 21: A tribal woman in Assam's Biswanath district has filed a case against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath and Assam Lok Sabha MP Ram Prasad Sarma for sharing her nude photo on social media.yogi

The photograph was taken 10 years ago during a protest in Guwahati.

Laxmi Orang has filed a complaint in the court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) the Information Technology Act.

"Yogi Adityanath, without knowing any fact, commented in the social media that the rally was on behalf of the BJP and the Congress workers attacked it," Orang said referring to her participating in an agitation in Guwahati in 2007.

"When Prime Minister Narendra Modi is campaigning for Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao at the same time his party Chief Minister (Adityanath) is doing this type of work. Is this democracy?" she questioned.

When contacted, Sarma said "it (the stripping) was a fact and a true incident during that time. I shared it so that people know that an unfortunate girl was a victim and no justice has been given to her till now.

"I have not given any comment with the shared post," Sarma said adding he had asked Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal a few days ago to reopen her case so that she gets justice.

Mangaluru, June 6: Four persons were arrested by the Mulki police today in connection with the murder of Abdul Lateef, a 38-year-old businessman.

The arrested are: Mohammed Hasim (27), Nissar alias Riyaz (33), and Mohammed Razim (24), all residents of Mulki, and Aboobakar Siddique (27), a resident of Udupi.

The weapons and vehicles used for murder have been confiscated. Investigation is in progress to find out the motive behind the murder and the arrest of remaining accused.

Abdul Lateef, his father-in-law Muneer, latter’s son Ijaz and relative Imran were returning from Vijaya Bank at Mulki when a gang of nine miscreants waylaid their car and attacked with sharp weapons.

The gang comprised of Hakeem, Wafa, Asim, Siddique, Nissar, Bava, Farhan, Razeem and Siddiq.  While four of them are arrested, police continued hunt to nab other accused.

Abdul Lateef breathed his last while being taken to hospital. Others are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru.

Bengaluru, Mar 27: In a preparatory measure to tackle any exigency in the backdrop of spread of coronavirus, the Karnataka government has asked district administrations to use as quarantine centres the residential schools and hostels that come the under Social Welfare department.

"Wherever necessary, these residential schools and hostels can be converted as quarantine facility without any extra cost by the district administrations," Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol said in a statement.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Karnataka stood at 55, including two deaths and three discharged persons, as on Thursday.

Karjol, who is also the Minister in-charge of Social Welfare department said, in view of holidays for educational institutions, there were no students staying in the residential schools and hostels and hence they can be used for quarantine purpose.

All the residential schools at hostels in districts and taluks are spacious and have all required facilities like rooms, kitchen, toilets, bathrooms, libraries among others, the Minister said adding most of them were located away from densely populated areas.

Bengaluru, April 6: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday said he is following the one-time fasting as per the order by BJP President JP Nadda.

"I am following the one-time fasting as per the order by our national President JP Nadda, on BJP foundation day today, as a mark of respect to doctors, nurses, media personnel," said BS Yediyurappa.

In his message to BJP workers earlier today, Nadda stated, "All BJP Karyakartas to give up one meal on our Foundation Day as a way to show solidarity with people facing hardships during the lockdown. Provide food packets to 5+1 needy under #FeedtheNeedy program. In the next one week, put a system in place where we can provide two homemade face covers to each person at our booth. We should circulate videos of preparation and distribution of such face covers with #WearFaceCoverStaySafe."
