Triple Talaq not a matter of politics but related to dignity of Muslim women: Ravi Shankar

Patna, Sept 23: Union Law Minister and senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad today asserted that the issue of instant triple Talaq was not an issue of politics but was related to honour, dignity and protection of Muslim women. 

Addressing a group of Muslim women who assembled at his residence in the state capital to thank Narendra Modi government for bringing an ordinance banning the practice of instant triple Talaq, Mr Prasad said the issue of instant triple Talaq was not related to politics or votes in any way expressing his dismay over the ‘politics’ being played out on the issue. 

He said, women politicians like Mayawati and Mamata Banerjee should come openly in protest against the practice of instant triple Talaq. 

“Instant triple talaq is not an issue of religion or worship either but related to the women`s dignity,” Mr Prasad remarked. 

After President Ram Nath Kovind signing the ordinance banning instant triple Talaq last Wednesday, Mr Prasad said that Muslim women becoming victims of instant triple Talaq could register FIRs at the police stations concerned against their husbands.

New Delhi, Feb 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday greeted the Indian Coast Guard on its raising day, appreciating its efforts to keep the country's coasts safe.

The Coast Guard came into being in 1977.

"Greetings to the Indian Coast Guard on their foundation day. Our Coast Guard has made a mark due to their remarkable efforts to keep our coasts safe," Modi tweeted.

The prime minister said the force's "concern towards the marine ecosystem is also noteworthy".

Unnao, Feb 26: Ever heard of someone wishing a 'bright future' for the dead? In a bizarre incident in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district, a village head issued a death certificate with the wish for an elderly man who had died last month.

The incident took place in the Sirwariya village in Asoha block where an elderly person Laxmi Shankar died after a prolonged illness on January 22.

His son went to the village head Babulal and requested him to issue a death certificate that he needed for some financial transactions.

Babulal not only issued the death certificate, but also 'wished' 'a bright future for the deceased' on the document.

The village head wrote in the death certificate -- "Main inke ujjwal bhavishya ki kaamna karta hoon (I wish him a bright future)."

The letter went viral on the social media on Monday after which the village head apologised for the error and issued a new death certificate.

Hyderabad, Feb 28: The Cyber Crime Police of Hyderabad has registered an FIR against social media platforms- WhatsApp, Twitter and TikTok- for allowing people to spread anti-national activities, as per a complaint filed by one S Srishailam.

Raghuveer, Additional DCP Cyber Crimes said," We have received a court referred complaint, which was filed by S Srisailam in the concerned court stating that social media platforms Whatsapp, Twitter and TikTok are allowing few people to spread anti-national activities and videos."

S Srisailam also claimed that a few people are running a campaign against the CAA on social media platforms to spread hatred which in turn is causing damage to national integrity.

"In this regard, because the complaint was referred by a court a case has been registered against Whatsapp, Twitter & TikTok under the relevant section of Indian Penal Code and IT Act and took up the investigation," the DCP added.

He also added that the police cannot take action against these platforms as they are not banned in India but can initiate action against persons who intentionally indulge in spreading hatred.

"The police are conducting the investigation and if allegations of the complainant are found to be false then we will drop the case. We had received the case one week ago," informed the DCP.
